Chronic pain

I had breast cancer 10 years ago and had a mastectomy. I then had another breast cancer diagnosis 5 years ago and had a second mastectomy with double reconstruction. I had chemo, radio and herceptin and tamoxifen. I am so grateful for everything that the health professionals did for me and very happy to still be here. However, I have ongoing aches and pains in region of my chest and underarms. I have had investigations over the years and thankfully, nothing sinister was diagnosed.

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced such long term effects. Is chronic pain common after such surgery and treatment?

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that you are experiencing long term chronic pain and I can't begin to imagine how awful it must be for you.

I noticed that no one had replied to your post yet and this is possibly because this is such a busy group that your post has slipped off the first page before someone with the experience you need has seen it. By responding to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussions list.

It would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
