Hello

I have completed 3 cycles of EC chemo due to start docetaxel 19th March. Any advice on side effects with docetaxel.
I have also had the cold cap for my EC treatment but have lost most of my hair. My scalp in the middle is visible. I only have a very thin strands of hair on the sides and am wanting to know should I continue with the cold cap or not.
Thank you for everyone’s support and wish you all the best at whichever stage of your treatment you are going through.

  • I'd definitely continue,  as Docetaxel can cause permanent hair loss of varying degrees in about 10% of women and this is avoided by using the cold cap. I lost a lot of hair after my 4 EC doses,  so it felt colder when starting Paclitaxel.  My hair started growing back on Paclitaxel though so it got better,  and I avoided a wig going back to work 2 months after finishing.  Some women wear a thin surgeon style cap to take the edge of it,  but I just had 2 co-codamols! Good luck:)

    Hi oregano

I had 3 cycles of EC and then 3 cycles of docetaxel.

I lost all my hair between my first two lots of EC. I  didn't do the cold cap.

My main side effects with the docetaxel were I lost my toenails and my fingernails and had numbness in my fingers and feet.

My taste changed all through my treatment.

I finished my chemo in November but my fingers and feet are still numb and tingly.

My finger nails are just beginning to grow back, but the toenails have a bit of a way to go yet.

My hair is beginning to come back now and my taste returned.

You can check on line regarding the possible side effects.

Wishing you all the best on your journey.
