I had a large local wide incision and reconstruction 6 weeks ago. It was glued together and all seems to be heeling well, glue and scab all gone and I am using bio oil and a vitamin E cream to massage skin!

I am desperate for a soak in the bath, how long should I leave it before doing so, or would it be okay to do so now?

thanks xx

I would think that 6 weeks on your should be ok . I was told 6 weeks,  but don't use anything highly perfumed and it would probably be nit to have the water too hot or up to your chin. Another thing you could try (and this sounds ridiculous but works) is to wrap your operation site in cling film!!! One of my  nurses told me that and it means that you can shower properly to.

  • Omg. I only have baths and it’s a source of relaxation for me. I had a bath straightaway. I called the breast care team and when I explained that I only have baths and that’s a way for me To relax, she said do it but just don’t get the wound in the water. As soon as the dressing came off they said I was Good to go but not to soak for too long. Perhaps discuss with your team as each persons situation is different. But without my baths I would not have got through this at all. So it was worth it for me. Just to say I never ever shower, or very very rarely. So that’s the context. Clingfilm will also do it as bustysusy mentions

good luck and enjoy if you do decide to have a bath. I’m in the bath now, radio on, bubbles, candle, scar just above water for now.
