Hi everyone, I hope you are all as well as can be.

I had a lumpectomy to remove a radial scar/ lesion and a titanium marker left in situ in June 2019. Fortunately everything was benign.

However, on occasions since the lumpectomy I get a sudden excruciating pain in that breast, I can only describe it as the worst cramp ever( I have breathe the pain away like giving birth) but in my breast, it lasts for around twenty minutes.  It happened again yesterday and I still feel a bit sore.
I have examined myself and can’t find any lumps, I had a clear mammogram in June 2020.

My question is, has anyone else experienced anything like this after a lumpectomy and can shed any light on this ?

Yes I know I need to get back to the GPs to discuss, but wondering if it’s a normal thing after a lumpectomy and marker.

thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Hi Cjg61 welcome to the forum.  I had my lumpectomy in 2017 and can on occasion still experience discomfort in that breast that said I also had Lymphodema in the breast so not sure if that's what sets mine off or not. The other thing is that there is a long period of healing to take place and maybe this could be healing and nerves reconnecting etc although  cramp like feelings would be making me think about maybe some adhesions in the breast.

Its good that there are no lumps but I would be very tempted to get myself to the GP and have them take a look as that will give you some degree of re-assurance . Let us know how you get on,. Sending some hugs meantime.xx

    Hi granny59,

thanks for your reply, I hadn’t thought of adhesions, that is interesting!
Weirdly, the lumpectomy was on the inside lower area, but I always had an aching down the outside nearer my armpit. I put that down to not using those muscles while recovering, that’s the area the crampy pain starts and spread across the whole breast, and then disappears as quickly as it came......Only this time I still feel sore 24 hrs later!
I will get to the gp sometime soon ( hopefully! )

take care , big hugs back x

I went to see my Gp, I have been put on a two week referral. She is hoping the pain is from the lumpectomy, nerve pain , adhesions, fibroids. She wants things checked out just in case something suspicious has developed.

GP warned me that if all is well, the post lumpectomy  pain maybe something I have to live with .........Fearful

Hi , just an update, I had my appointment at the breast clinic yesterday. On physical examination the consultant couldn’t find any lumps ( because there aren’t any)  and seemed sure my pain was muscular.
Fortunately, I was sent over to Utrasound just to check......” Something “ did show up on the US, right were the tenderness and pain seems to be. I had the “ something “ aspirated but no fluid came out, which meant I had to have 3 core biopsies. I am now awaiting results which will be around 2 weeks.

The weird thing is I just don’t feel right, how do people physically feel before a diagnosis? I am feeling very tired, just can’t seem to stay awake, lightheaded occasionally and just generally not myself. My right arm aches so bad it constantly feels like I just had a Covid vaccine in it.
I know lockdown hasn’t helped anyone physically, I was always so fit and never felt my age , now I feel I’ve aged 10 years in a year.

    Hi Jacksnan,

Sorry you are having problems, well, after a few days I had a call from the breast clinic to let me know whatever it was is benign, no risk so doesn’t need a another lumpectomy, thank goodness!
The strange thing is since the biopsy healed I feel so much better all the aching and pain has gone. It feels as though some pressure has been relieved. I think I was also feeling poorly because of months of worry and anxiety.

Sorry I can’t be of anymore help, but hopefully whatever your going through is benign too.
