Morning, Had my first chemotherapy just over a week ago, been so rough. First one I guess is hard because you are not sure what to expect but if I’m going to feel like this not sure how I’m going to cope.

Hi, when you say you felt rubbish did you throw up at all? I took everything that was given to me all the anti sickness but was bad for a few days.
I hope your second one goes ok x

  • Hi  what chemo are you on . I had EC X 6 ( you can read my profile by clicking on my name ) I always had nausea. Which is norm for most chemo some cycles worse than others but ... no vomiting I was told to ring my unit if I was actually sick they can change your meds to something that works for you .

We all react differently but the unit does not want you to suffer so give them a ring they won't mind .

    hope you feel better soon

    Thank you,

sorry I didn’t get back to you.

first lot of chemo is Fec-t , phoned the hospital after 2nd day because I couldn’t keep anything down including anti sickness water etc. They did say that if it didn’t get any better I would have to go to hospital A&E. that really worried me.

they did say they could change my medication though.

Also have really bad sore throat, I used Difflam mouth wash however I think I might have had some sort of reaction to it so left that out today

    x

  • Hi  .. take a breath you'll be fine , hopefully  by day 10 you should start to feel a little better so that by 15 you'll feel almost normal .

We are all different in how we react plus there are many cocktails of chemo . I was lucky and coped reasonably well 1>4 then felt rough for last two ,was offered a change but I'm stubborn Joy

If sickness continues ring unit again ask if you can go in for meds . The suggestion for A&E isn't as scary as it sounds you will be kept separate anyway because of chemo let alone covid . They would take  your bloods to make sure no infection and don't need antibiotics .

One other important thing is have you taken temperature if it high you do need to be seen .

You may get more answers on the Jan chemo thread where you can chat to people going thru chemo some on FEC-t

You can find it under the diagnosis and treatment discussion Jan chemo thread

I was sick once about 4am the next day after feeling nauseous all night. I felt nauseous for a few days after but was not sick again. Slowly it went little by little. I think this time round I am going to try eating a bit more to see if that helps. Also I completely went off anything sweet so have stocked up with lemon squash and some savoury bits to snack on.

2nd chemo tomorrow so another one down! X

I hope it goes ok for you tomorrow x if eating more helps let us know.

I’m dreading my 2nd mainly because I was so sick. I found that boiled sweets helped a bit with my nausea but not my mouth ulcers .

  • Hi  try frozen grapes for your mouth . I used to fill my fridge with small tubs of jelly ,rice, custard . Cocktail sausages anything small so I could pick when I was nauseous. Little and often helped me to keep it under control .I meant to say before I do know that some people had the F  part of FEC removed because they weren't tolerating it well . Decision was made by onco .

    good luck

    Hi,

thanks I will try the frozen grapes and jelly.

I won’t speak to my oncologist until the day before my next treatment. Someone mentioned gargling with sea salt
