Hi

I has a mastectomy on 7 April but as I’m a larger breasted lady I cannot find a suitable bra as all my pre-surgery ones were underwired and there is no way I’ll be wearing them again.

the cancer care nurse gave me some leaflets but the closest 2 shops to me are both closed at the moment and I cannot find a single  suitable bra on any of the websites provided and anywhere else I’ve looked.

I wore a 36H from m&s for a long time but I cannot find anything for post surgery in that size

is there anyone else who had the same issues that could suggest somewhere for me - I’d be very grateful. Thank you

Hi, I'm not sure what size they go up to but I got mine from Asda and Matalan so maybe their online stores will have them. Both sorts are soft, no wires and pockets for a softie or prosthesis.

  • Hi Jem65, I'm quite big chested, I had the bras in Asda they are okay but because there is no underwire there is not much support, I ordered mine from Amazon they are a bit more expensive but I expect you had to pay more for your bras before surgery like me.  I hope this helps :-)

  • I'm 36G but only had lumpectomy.  I've worn underwire bra since my surgery (5 years ago) because I needed the support.  I did during radiotherapy and while skin healed wear Debenhams post surgery bras as they were so soft inside .  I had to go up a back size or two if I remember rightly though as I found the fit difficult.  I had been warned sizing was odd with them so ordered a selection of sizes for home delivery.

I bought these.  I'll bought a 40G as I didn't want them tight under my breast where skin would break down.  As they are slightly padded even though cup a bit big they looked fine and were amazingly comfortable and perfect for allowing a bit of air around my irradiated boob.  If you are in Swansea you are welcome to try them .

  • I bought the Asda ones (2 pack). They were great for a while but the support soon goes, I’m going to have to put a stitch in the straps on one side as they are not adjustable. I’ve also bought the M&S total support bras in ‘g’ size and just put my softie in the cup, works really well. Not sure if they go up to an ‘h’ though.

    Hi Jem

i am similar size and mastectomy on right side 30 Apr. My BCN nurse suggested sabotaging a bra and taking the underwire out on the surgery side, I did this pre op and wore it for a day and it seemed to work so might b worth a try on an old bra. I hv ordered some bras from Asda waiting for them to arrive.  M&S was completely sold out of post surgery bras when I checked yesterday. Struggling to wash with my drain still in, anyone got any tips for this activity....

    Hi Miss P

thanks for that reply - I might try to adapt an old bra!

the drains are a pain (literally) - they were difficult to manage in the shower. Other than that I used my son’s man bag (the little ones that lads wear round their necks) to Barry them round putting the strap across my body which made most tasks easier as I didn’t keep catching them.

my drains were in for just over a week so hopefully you’ll start to feel better soon

  •  Hi

I had my mastectomy last July and lge size and cup. 40G . I’m in conversation with m&s at the minute because there has only ever been one option for me to buy from them and I have been unable to purchase from store or online for since before covid. I used to work in retail and find it hard to  believe that their buyers believe small boob lids need more options than larger ladies ???

will let you know if I get positive outcome

I had my drain in after a lumpectomy in the olden days. I had it at Pontefract and we were given little cloth bags with handles on the Friends of the hospital made. The nurses matched the bags to your dressing gown. The handles meant it could be hung on a hook by the shower or on the back of the chair. We were expected to sit in the dining room for meals. The bag also ment the tick was hidden from visitors and us and again it could be hung out of the way.

We were in wards of four and grew very close as we recovered. We shared the good bits and cried together. We always had a nurse available to ask about the smallest thing. Nurses were so caring and always came for me when my son rang from Afghanistan as requested by a post it  note stuck to the phone.

Ah the good old days 13 years ago.

  • Still get the bags in this area nice pretty material designed to be worn over neck/ shoulder .

So useful for the bloody drain bottle

Hi, I've just been searching in this forum for a post like this. I know it's not a recent post but I wondered if you managed to find a supplier for bigger sized post surgery bras?

I'm a 36J and the only place I can buy my bras from is Bravissimo. They don't sell post surgery bras. My surgeon just wants to do a left mastectomy- I'd rather he do a double, but he won't. So I've been searching for bigger sized post surgery bras in order to fit the left over boob. Biggest cup size I've found is a H cup which is still too small.

Feeling more stressed over this than the actual surgery!
