Hello lovely people, and Welcome to the August's Chemotherapy Chat!

This thread is for all of you soldiers, going through chemotherapy to take a look at, ask questions, answer questions and be there for one another in a way only you guys know how.

If you want to find this post quickly, you can hit the 'Save In My Favourites' button.

For all of those of you going through chemotherapy, you are superstars. You are amazing, and you are fighting each and every day, you are my heroes. If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and something that you may find you would like to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital you are being treated at; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or discounted (big discount!) So it's worth asking about.

To get a sense of how the thread works, here is a link to July's chat which will be being locked from replies soon, but have a read anyway if you'd like to.

Remember, you're never alone, you have us! And, just try to focus on what your chemotherapy is doing. Its hopefully kicking your cancers butt.

I hope you are coping with me doing these! And I hope all of you are doing as well as you can do while going through this tough part of your journies.

Happy August Everyone,

Lots of love, hugs, light and healing to each and every one of you.

  • Hi

My Hairdresser had already told me about Nioxin when doing my pixie cut . Recommending before , after ,during .

She was going to get it from wholesalers but the Groupon package is cheaper . I have ordered both packages on offer ..shampoo .conditioner ,scalp. ..also ordered the second pack of scalp therapy which I think is more for when all her gone to massage in .

I also ordered thru quidco to get further discounts.

Yuo can find write ups on line

    hope this helps

  • Hi all,

Thanks for the tips about Nioxin, which will I look for on Groupon.  In its current bald (but with a few remaining wisps) state, my poor old scalp could definitely do with a bit of TLC!

I am now on Day 3 post my second EC, and am feeling OK apart from a churning/queasy feeling in the stomach which comes and goes (and is a bit worse than after the first treatment).  I forgot to put my acupressure wrist bands on overnight and woke up feeling quite nauseous, but when I put them on the queasiness subsided.  I don’t know how the bands work, or if the effect is actually psychological, but as long as they are helping, I won’t question it!   I am not taking any other medication (apart from the obligatory post-treatment steroids) for the queasiness, although I have two boxes of different tablets from my unit on standby.   I am trying to see if I can manage with the wrist bands and some natural remedies (peppermint tea, and Nairns oat biscuits with ginger pieces seem to help settle my stomach quite well).  One thing I have noticed after the second EC is that (so far) I am less physically tired than after the first treatment, which I didn’t expect.

I hope that everyone is having a good day!

  • What an inspiration you lot are !!You are driving through the treatment bravely Grinning I hope you didn’t mind me gatecrashing the August chemo thread but if I can manage like you all I will be happy.

I now know what is happening to me after what seems like an endless worrying wait. Biopsy etc 24th July Diagnosis 31st July. Then tests tests and more tests. I had my oncology appointment yesterday 29th August and the treatment was all explained to me. 3EC and 3 Doxa??? Plus Herceptin and Perjeta. Herceptin X18 in total so will become a regular at hospital. Then surgery and then radiotherapy. I liken it to pregnancy . For 9 months /1year you leave your dignity at the door and hunker down and get on with it and hopefully all worth it at the end !! I have my pre assessment on Monday and first chemo on Wednesday 4th September.

So will join you all on September thread and wish everyone well.

So to make the most of my last days pre treatment we are travelling south on the train to visit our son and family for the weekend. Unsure when I will see them next

Hope you are all able to enjoy the weekend.

    Best wishes.

  • good to hear you now have your plan, I think it does feel better to know things are about to happen even though it is scary. The sooner we start the sooner we'll be through it.

Your plan sounds very similar to mine - I'm having 3 x EC then 4 x DTP with the perjeta & Herceptin continuing for another 14 sessions. I found it a bit hard to believe at first that I will be at the hospital every 3 weeks for the next 12 months or a bit more but I hope that maybe the continuing hormone therapy won't be quite as scary as the actual chemo. I'll have my surgery in the new year, about a month after my last chemo on 27 December, so I am advised.

I am on day 8 after my first EC and so far am doing pretty good. I have felt a little bit in limbo like waiting for something to happen but with another week passed, I am now going to try and carry on a bit more normal and try not to just focus everything on the fact that I am in treatment!

Enjoy your weekend with the family, good luck next week and see you on the September thread. :-)

    xx

Hi I hope you are feeling less sickly now. I had to visit the doc yesterday for a different anti sickness drug, a week after my 2nd EC and I was beginning to really struggle. A day into the new tabs and I’m back to normal. Bit of bone pain kicked in last night but much better today. I hope you have a good weekend
