Hi I’ve just had reconstruction and have now got to have chemo, wondered if any one can help as feeling nervous.

  • hi

welcome to the breast group, sorry you've had to come and find us

I was just reading your profile, sorry to hear about your sister in law.

Well done on getting through the surgery but as often happens they seem to find more sinister stuff than expected, it happened to me, I was told I 'only' had DCIS, ductal carcinoma in situ, very low risk, but post surgery was whisked off for full body scans and 6 months of chemo.

It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, I'm not sure what I was expecting but other than having to get up several times in the night to run to the loo, which was a sure sign things were starting to work, there was no other obvious signs.

Losing our hair is of course the most obvious sign and that didn't happen for a couple of weeks. I had a nice wig which was fine once I'd carefully trimmed the fringe to stop it poking me in the eyes and a Bobbi Brown eyebrow kit, very easy to use.

What else can we tell you ...

    Hi there,

Nervous is normal, so is really, really nervous!
I had nearly 7 months of Chemo last year. I'm still having Herceptin jabs now. I was terrified before my first chemotherapy, trembling with fear and I wasn't scared of anything in the 'pre- cancer' version of me. But to be honest it was fine, I found a wonderful lady to chat to. After I felt tired and a bit hung over but that was it. You'll be given medications to help with the side effects, prevention is better than cure so take them asap.

You'll find all the advice and support you need here. I don't know if it'll work but I've put a link to the May chemo chat, so you can speak to other women having chemo now. Others will be along with advice and support so keep posting.

There's a page with advice, if I find it I'll post that too.

    All the best x
