I am wondering if some of you will share with me and others what took you to your GP that finally led to your diagnosis? I have done a monthly examination of my breasts since I was 18 - now 37. There are so many other things to look out for as well though that if im honest, I never knew to check for. For example I was always led to believe that pain in the breast was ok. I never knew upper back pain could be related. So if you would like to share then please do.

Thank you.

  • Hi Lily, I’ve just been through my first dose of Chemo. For me it was different. I had no symptoms to start with just felt different. I unfortunately have Parkinson’s as well so it was difficult to assess. I then felt a raised bump on my breast, mentioned it to my friend and she thought it best I get it checked out. From the time of seeing my GP to treatment, mastectomy of left breast, was a matter of weeks.
I suppose what I’m trying to say is there’s such a lot of variables, if you don’t feel right then go to your GP and explain how you feel. It’s best to get it checked out.

  • @teeny1978 the words brave scream out to me. I'm praying all your following steps and outcomes are positive

  • I felt a small lump on the lower part of left breast near bra line. Had it checked out and mammogram showed another lump in right breast I could not feel. I had early stage triple negative in left breast and HER positive in right breast. I had no pain whatsoever.  Now 9 weeks post double mastectomy and doing well and starting chemo this week for 30 weeks. Awaiting BRCA result to determine any further treatments required.

  • I had some blood from the nipple. Didn’t feel and lumps but breast was tender. I was diagnosed with high grade DCIS. Post surgery biopsy showed a small number of micro invasions - lasgest being 3.5mm. I did have a mammogram 3 years previous but didn’t show anything abnormal . Consultant reckoned it started about 5 years ago. Wish it had been picked up on last mammogram- now had mastectomy and radiotherapy. Triple negative so no hormone treatment or chemo necessary.

  • Mine is quite bizarre. I just randomly felt a lump in my right breast when I leant on something. It seemed quite large. Rang doctors and they referred me to hospital. Got an app for the following week, by which time the lump had gone. My partner suggested I still get checked so I did. The doctor did a physical examine and couldn't find the lump I talked about but found a few cysts so off for a mammogram. Same day then had ultrasound and biopsy of a different suspicious lump which turned out to be 8mm tumour.

Thinking back afterwards my partner and I seem to remember our cat jumping on me in bed one morning and landing on my right boob. And that's why caused the lump. Either way I'm thankful for whatever it was as it resulted in this other lump being found.

It could of been a completely different story 5 years down the line.

I'm "mammographically occult" on my notes.
