since starting Anastrozole I’ve had 3 UTI’s, the 3rd one I’m suffering from now.. I’ve had my blind panic that the cancer may have spread but I’ve also just read an article about low estrogen and recurring UTI’s.  Has anyone else suffered from this?  If so did you take anything to prevent this?  I’ve looked at D-mannose?

A-ha that explains it!  I am not on Anstrozole but on Examestane however I have noticed the same, so have been drinking more than usual and it seems that it's been ok.  I have learnt so much just by reading posts.

  • Yup and

Menopause, low oestrogen can cause UTI’s. A major issue for much older women who’ve not even had the crap we have. So keep those good fluids going without stressing the bladder. Lack of oestrogen a big thinner of the lining of the bladder. Deep joy

I'm definately thinking about this D-Mannose is apparently its the active part of the cranberry so not drinking copious amounts of sugar laden juice... I just don't want it to react with the Anastrozole though so I think I may speak to BCN next week? :)  xx

  • Hi OCRKate,

I'm on Letrozole and have been told by my Nurse that can cause UTI's due to reducing Hormone Oestrogen. I've been told to drink 2 litres of water each day, I try!!

  • A weird smile thank you for that info. As someone on Letrozole that piece of inf was never shared. Cheers with a glass of water in hand

    Hi

Thanks for the information, most appreciated Slight smile

I do drink about 4-6 large glasses of water a day anyway but it doesnt seem to help, the more I think about it the more I'm worrying if the cancer has gone to my bladder :(

  • Hi

It is such a worry and we all stress about where it might be next but I don't think the bladder is a place that Breast C spreads to.

Hi. Im in exactly same position as you. Ive read lots on this as no one tells you about this nasty side effect.  I too worry its cancer spread but most likely estrogen reduction is the culprit. Im contacting my breast care nurse on the subject as my GP was hopeless. Might be worth a try for her opinion. Good luck.
