It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • I’m amazed, the Golden Anniversary rose is still trying, a bud showing colour, bless it

  • I’m so glad I texted that pic to the kids, daughter is having her first venesection this afternoon to lower her very high ferritin levels and is feeling nervous, bless her, as she can’t have anyone with her to hold her hand. (Cancer, the disease that keeps on giving!)

so the photo helped raise her spirits a little

  • And it’s all done, she’s home and feeling fine thank goodness, next in a month (due to Christmas and New Year interruptions) and then every couple of weeks till her levels are normal. Her ferritin levels were very high, comes from 3-weekly red cell transfusions for over 2 years following her donor transplant till it fully took over. There is a med that can sort it but she reacted very badly to that.

  • It might take quite a long time, that’s her main worry, and of course her veins are shot after years and years of treatment!

  • Today the lass is doing a recording for New Year’s Eve, Jools Holland, over on Saffron Walden. Again she is paranoid so will take extra care of herself and insist on keeping her distance!

Done my daily exercise, jog/March/stomp on the spot to a Mozart piano concerto and the Sorcerers Apprentice, both having great rhythm so keeping me going in good time. Then stretches, and also a modified push up routine, my arms have never been strong so building up a bit of strength can’t be bad!

    Stay safe, all

  • So today’s exercise done, plus I’ve begun cooking red cabbage slowly, with apple and cider vinegar.

I’m mighty tickled, as I’ve lost some weight! I’ve tried to reduce portions plus have a salad at lunchtime with no free carbohydrates like bread etc. So it’s just over 2 lbs lost, and I don’t know if it’s a combination of diet plus exercise but I’m pleased! It’s weight that has crept on over many years so might take a similar long time to lose but lose it I should. Lockdown hasn’t helped with the boredom and regular deliveries of tasty stuff.

  • I’ve maintained the weight loss and a teeny bit more....well pleased!

just got back from our local dairy farm, milk and cream; I had delayed my supermarket slot this week as I’d done a big order the week before, milk was really the only thing to run low (but their cream is so good it’s hard to resist!). We are so lucky to have a farm selling direct only 7 miles away. It gave me and the Landy an outing too (the low sun was tough to cope with, but mustn’t complain!)

  • Today it’s windy but (so far) fine, though damp outside as if it rained overnight?

I plan to continue exercise and my dietary change for lunchtimes. And weigh myself regularly but not too often!

  • Chemist walk for our repeat meds, scrubbed kitchen floor, that is great exercise but my Apple Watch didn’t realise!
