It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Hi Moomy,

Take care of youself and rest up a bit too.You have been very busy with the tree -it will still be there when you feel able to tackle it again or perhaps the tree surgeon will come for a visit. Sending you gentle hugs  xx

  • We felt better today so I sawed off a great big lump (base of two branches) and then we decided to get another branch down! Roped and sawn and pulled into the right position as it came down. Now to cut off the smaller  branches but at present the green bins are full so it waits on the lawn till we can begin on Monday! Daughter has bagged the bigger branches to dry in their wood store for the wood burning stove, and son in law wants a bit to try carving!

and now we are both achey again! Thank goodness for having decided on watching through Downton Abbey again, (Got all DVDs including the film) it stopped us doing any more!

  • I had to lop some of the branches lying on the lawn so they didn't catch the washing going round on the whirligig!

We feel pretty glad that we can get rid of the tree easily, to be honest, it will just take time. Hubs has exhausted himself again by starting to pain the 3 door panels we have in a lean to 'garden room', they developed some rot so he has treated them and rebuilt the carved out rot, with special filler, and now is in the process of painting them, bit by bit. But he always tries to carry on beyond what he should!

I've just tried to keep quiet, not touch wet paint and deal with the washing and make another loaf of bread. Plus I've weighed out the fruit for a rich fruit cake to celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary, the kids insist as its the end of August and we should be able to be together by then, we will book up somewhere to meet up in camper vans!  (now I can make and ice rich fruit cakes I'm going to do another!) Needless to say I am using up the excesses I bought when i made the Bombe celebration cake! Son (who helped me with that) asked if the icing would be red!!! (of course!)

  • Made, cooked, out cooling and smells delicious!!!!

I’ve been horrified at photos of covidiots in the news, it’s happened locally too, Sharpenhoe Clappers, a small ridge of pretty hills not too far away, car park full and idiots parked all along the minor road. The hills are no way large enough for that many people to social distance!

  • I really hope the covidiots don’t spread this virus as those like our lass who have been isolating/shielding (whatever the proper term is!) may well still continue to need to!

I'm waiting patiently for the bin men to empty our green bin so I can get on with clipping up the olive branch we still have lying on the lawn, and then we can get in with lowering the next one to the ground. Still will have three or four left even then! And then the heavy sawing begins of the main trunk and biggest lower branches, though these of course have no leaves. That’s wood which needs to dry and get driven to our lass for her to store away for a couple of winters time when it will save them a bit of cash for their wood burner.

oh, and the rich fruit cake took an age to cool, but is now safely wrapped up and will get ‘fed’ regularly.

  • We began to get another bit of tree down, it had no leaves or small branches but when it fell I was a bit slow to get out of the way and it scraped down my forearm. Sadly my skin is thin so I’ve now a Tegaderm dressing on it! Thankfully I heal fairly fast!

The green bin collection failed yesterday so the council said it would happen today; hope it does! Then I can use the clippers again to free up the lawn!

I had a rotten night, with what waa bit like cramp pains but comes in an occasional wave, in my right ankle/foot. Argh!

  • @moomy I hope your arm isn't too sore....I hate cramp I'm constantly jumping round my bedroom lol

  • hi ,

the arm has settled well thank you, but the crappy feeling continued off and on all night so I didn’t get a lot of sleep, it’s just beginning to ease now at long last! Maybe an afternoon nap is in the cards.....Getting older ain’t no joke!

  • Hmmmm, that cramps pain eventually went, I wore my varicose vein sock too which maybe helped a bit.

i did get a short nap, need one today too as last night I had some of the wakefulness/reflux/hot flush sessions. It was pretty warm and is now lots cooler so maybe tonight will be better.

i managed to clip up all the remaining branches which had still been lying in the lawn, this morning, following that I did a watering session including the lawn which looked in a sorry state. It’s been drizzling a little but not enough!

my plan is for trying to climb up and clip much further up in the tree to get the still leafy branches lowered to the ground now that there’s a clearer access to it, then if it does get at all windy it will be safer. Trouble is I hate ladders! And I used to rock climb? But I think that will be a safer way of getting the weight out of the top of the tree.
