It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Thanks so much   Most of the pre-op preparations have been done (hoorah).  My OH works away during the week, so I have a girlfriend taking me to the hospital and staying with me overnight, so wanted to ensure the house was ship shape with fresh bedding for her and lots of nice food in the fridge.

Wow 9 hours is fantastic, embrace the energy whilst you have it, but in baby steps. Sounds like you have done a days work before 10am in the morning!!  Lots of love xxx

  • I wish I slept like that regularly, Eddiboy! daughter keeps telling me I need it, but what with worry too, I know I haven’t slept well for weeks before the mx (let alone the years when I was worrying about her) and even during the 2 nights in hospital I only got around 4 hours max each night. I’m not normally a good sleeper, 7-8 hours is normal for me. But again I had a half hour afternoon nap!

Eating well too! (Will have to be careful there!)

I guess it’s because I know now that it’s all over bar the shouting (or maybe the fat lady singing!) and Letrozole, I can begin to rebuild fitness once the last drain is out. It’s still draining though, so I really hope it can come out on Tuesday!

I hope to get back to choir this next Thursday too, we are doing Vivaldi ‘Gloria’ and Durante ‘Magnificat’ both wonderfully upbeat pieces so I hope I will be ok and not disgrace myself by getting emotional! Might have been specially planned! I will be driven and collected, hubs will ensure that, as we’ve a Landy which, although it has power steering, is a bit heavy yet, and the drivers seatbelt cuts across. I will get by that in weeks to come with a small cushion.....

Yoga will have to wait though, maybe next month or even after that if I feel I can cope and ignore what I can’t manage. My yoga teacher (?) knows what I’ve been through and will ensure I take it steady I know!

Hugs to you all, I’ve felt so supported on here...... xxx

  • Fingers crossed for Tuesday and the drain getting the boot, . Plus an evening of singing must be good for soul xxx

  • Singing is such great therapy! I recommend it to everyone, plus if you read music too, it gets classed as mindfulness, you certainly can’t think of anything else while you’re doing it!

My choir is lunchtimes, probably just as well as more than an hour might be hard work to begin with!

  • Hi Moomy, glad you are going back to singing. We perform the Poulenc Gloria and Faure Requiem in May, so dare not miss a rehearsal now.

I usually walk, but if nec DH will drive me as it's just after colonoscopy. Hope to make Tai Chi Thurs, but he will probably drive me.

Keep singing , big hugs xxxxxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Ooooh, Seaspirit I just LOVE Faure’s Requiem, it’s ond of my favourites!

We did a fairly new version of Mozart Requiem a few terms back and I loved that too. Think it’s the Levin version, of course Mozart never finished the work and some movements were merely sketched out, but apparently the vocal parts to Lacrymosa were Mozart’s own, it was the final chord sequence that varies in different editions. We are lucky in that our MD was in the Music Department of the OU so knows his stuff and researches constantly!

I’ve sung off and on most of my life and it’s great to have joined the OU choir, it works at the sort of speed and challenge that really suits me.

Keep singing, all who are able!

  • Pah,

Please keep your fingers crossed that my drain can come out tomorrow, though it still got 15mls or so in the last 12 hours, I feel so ready to sleep on that side but it’s still too uncomfortable at present! Plus it would be great not to have it at choir Thursday lunchtime!

  • Hi Seaspirit,

Hope the colonoscopy is all A-OK! Hubs has them regularly and the prep is the hardest part, he says.....hope they treat you with kid gloves!

    Big gentle hugs xxx

  • Just picked up Letrozole, my our local service doesn't hang about! Talked to the pharmacist about the brand they stock (Accord) and if I get along with that they will ensure I get the same each time. Also will take it in the mornings, on chatting about s/e's of my other meds.

Got my 6 month follow up appointment by phone, too. The Breast Care Unit in our local hospital is REALLY efficient as well as warm and caring!!!!

Hugs to all you lovely ladies xxx

  • It’s been a busy old day, shattered now and going to bed! Had too much buzzing round in my brain to settle to get a nap this afternoon so have come up early instead.

Had a reply email from the hospital CEO to my concerns about cutting funding, typical whitewash letter.....but same letter already went to MP and the press, he has been warned!

Just also noticed that script for Letrozole is 56 tablets, my surgery admit they ‘allow’ two months’ worth. I have this same situation with 2 other meds, and always have to argue the toss with the receptionists; how many month of the year have only 28 days?????? Yet they don’t allow you to order early. One of those meds is for asthma, yet the asthma inhaler I can get every day should I wish ‘because it’s an asthma inhaler’!!!!

    Argh!!!!!!

    (Rant over!)

Hugs to you lovely ladies xxx
