It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Dear Pepys,

Yes I guess so, the doc was trying to hit a bad, full on case of hives hard, I'd already had a few days of standard antihistamines and steroid tablets, the antihistamines were stopped and the antihistamine added was Fexafenadine, the highest possible strength too. I'm what the paramedic called a 'slow burner' in that the allergies seem to take a while to develop!

Ah well, I won't ever have that drug again! But I just began reducing steroid tablets today, 8 to 7 and then down by one each day. Already slightly less 'twitchy' and more normal feeling, hope that just improves day by day!

  • Thank you, Seaspirit,

6 tablets today....a very wet day, wanted to get out this afternoon when it wasn't raining quite so much, the only very local walk out into the country was so muddy looking I simply came back and read instead! (Pic in 'walking back to happiness')

I did wonder if last night I would have been able to drop asleep without recourse to piriton but just before midnight I decided possibly not, so got up to take one and slept a good bit better than for a good 10 days.

  • What a difference a few hours makes, from wet to glorious sunny morning! Our view across the countryside from the cottage. Woken by noisy Oystercatchers flying around this morning (don't they ever sleep?!)

  • Today was specially for hubs, he has done a steam train driving day in the past, and just loves trains! So we took the steam train from Holt to Sheringham, had a good walk around and lunch in Sheringham and then a different steam train back. He loved it, and we enjoyed chatting to the volunteers who man the trains too.

  • Safely home after an amazing few days away, washing machine doing overtime!

Now the countdown begins, though I will have Bletchley Park to take my mind off things tomorrow, then daughter comes to stay on Monday to take care of us for a week, bless her! (That's when she gets back from her fortnight in the sun!)

So, cleaning, shopping, preparing, making sure hubs and daughter don't have to struggle with too much.....
