It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • , how could I forget you at your Christie choir! xx

The impromptus carol concert at the chemo unit was lovely. There was mulled wine and mince pies, Itwas rather last minute so there weren't many patients there, mostly those who had been in recently like me. Most of the staff were there. DH and I sang in parts where we could, and the whole group sounded good. It was so lovely to go there for a social occasion rather than medical, though I still feel emotional every time I go there  xx

, g,as you are improving, and , how did your run through go? Xx

  • Hi lovely ladies,

hope you are all well, thinking of you......just read back that your pain has eased enough to lie down more, Flossie, so good to hear.

Anne, four altos would be terrific! I did once sing second alto ‘oop north’ in the Halle choir for Dream  of Gerontius! (It was tricky getting to all the rehearsals, stayed with daughter when she lived in Bollington, near Macclesfield, and a lovely fellow alto gave me a lift, fortunately I got excused the Wednesday evening reheasals!) Carols for Choirs 4 has arrangements for ladies voices.....!!!

I met the other two ladies in the diminutive hospital chapel this lunchtime and we tried singing through a few times, agreed on what version we liked and will meet half an hour before the service for a short run through in another room tomorrow. Wearing all black, we decided as it should look professional!

  • Forgot you had sung in the Halle choir , you must be good! How did you get temporary membership? Must have been amazing, have never sung that.

We are doing Mozart's Requiem in May. Have done it before twice, but that was a long time ago and have forgotten it. Awful how soon things are forgotten these days! Xx

  • Hi Seaspirit,

it all happened after daughter had asked if I wanted to sing with Bryn Terfel (well yes, of course!) as the Halle choir needed associate members to bring it up to strength for the big work that it is; I applied and got an audition date, got a short bit to rehearse to sing, plus on the day some scales, response to direction exercises and the dreaded sight reading test, got told that I was accepted and had a whole list of rehearsal dates. Weekends were fine as I could stay up north, but a couple of hours on a Wednesday evening was a bit pointless from 150 miles away!

It was such fun and I was on such a huge ‘high’ after the performance in Bridgewater Hall, it was so necessary to have the Sunday for recording for the CD though as doing patches and joins meant it helped me ‘put it to bed’ as it were.

So, today getting mentally ready for my 2 minutes of singing in the middle of a Carol Service! (Slight difference!)

LOVE Mozart Requiem, but the previously published work is disjointed, we were introduced to the Levin edition which our scholarly MD and conductor explained worked much better. Daughter hates Mozart as a rule as a freelance musician but adores the Requiem, how strange is that?!

    hugs to you all xxx

  • Well done , glad it went well. Definitely you need R&R now!

I remembered the Gerontius, some friends were singing it. Well done getting through the audition.

I know some of you are cat lovers, but one really upset me today. It likes our garden, but I try to keep it away as we encourage the birds and squirrels. It caught a pigeon, dragged it to the bushes and started playing with it. I saw the poor thing trying to move using its wings, with both legs broken and useless. It kept stopping, breathing shallowly, obviously in pain. I got DH to kill it and bury it. Was in floods of tears, easily upset these days. I know it was only doing what animals do, but not in my garden in front of me thank you! I shall make sure it keeps a low profile ! Xxxx

  • Oh Seaspirit that’s so sad! I know it is in their nature and that pigeons can be pests, but why do it right in front of you?!?!?

i cried buckets when we realised a blackbird had been killed in our garden, so many feathers and the claws were left.....

i wear Skechers a lot as I bought a few pairs from Costco when they were doing them cheap,  podiatrist said they machine wash too!

    Hope you’re all well,

hugs to you all who post on this thread xxx
