It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Hi Moomy , long time no speak.  I don't write on here although i do read a lot of messages. I have to ask you what is "Wet and forget" ? glad to see you still out walking . I'm plodding along in and out of hospital with my asthma . I hope you have missed the awful flu bug thats doing the rounds .It was the flu that gave me a severe asthma attack that put me in hospital for 2 weeks in January. Ever since I caught Covid 19 the first time my immunity is shot to hell i will pick up everything that is going. and it takes longer and longer to get over things. I have been on steroids so many months now that it has started to weaken my bones I broke a bone in my foot and i broke a rib from coughing. crazy.  but that is nothing compared to what people are going through on here. and I am grateful for my life really. I have 2 new grandsons in the last two years and I get to look after them while their mums go to work. they will keep me young i'm sure. . Well you take things easy and keep up with your walking and yoga its all good for you. xxx Clare

  • Oh bless you Clare  , long time no ‘see’. So sorry that wretched Covid has damaged your immune system so badly. It’s rather well known for doing that, sadly.
daughter gave me covid (she was ok with it, it just felt like a slight cold) but as I’ve asthma too and was about to start my 3 weeks of rads I got Paxlovid which helped take the symptoms down quickly. But yes, I coughed for a few weeks.
she also got flu (but thankfully her immunoglobulin helped her get through it fairly quickly) and I looked after her but masked and used Dettol wipes and had a HEPA filter going outside her bedroom all the time. I didn’t get it.
‘wet and forget’ is a chemical put into water (5 parts water to 1 of the liquid, but I use a bit more water usually)  and used on grimy, slippery, grotty looking paths and slowly and steadily it improves them. My garden slopes towards the house so if I just pressure wash it comes to the nearby steps, and because subsoil is so clay, it doesn’t drain away properly. Besides, the pressure washer died and I still haven’t replaced it!
glad your grandchildren are keeping you busy, do take care of yourself though.

  • Bit chilly this morning, but good to see the row of young trees they’ve planted planted in front of the ditch are still there (and haven’t been vandalised). Hope they grow well this year.

  • A hospital-type morning today. First was an optometry contact lens appointment, I’ve still got ‘shadowing’ in right eye. It seems (although I asked to be short sighted after the cataract surgery) my eye has settled to very slight long sight. And a new lens is ordered. However, my vision with that correction was brilliant so I’m looking forward to that arriving! She’s going to check at the end of March but said it’s all under warranty so no extra money needed, phew! And I will be left with this one as an emergency spare.

Then it was off for my monthly blood test in the cancer unit. Blood pressure was up (no surprise there!) and temp was a little raised but I wasn’t too surprised at that as I have on so many layers….!  Weight has also gone up again, frustratingly. I guess there’s not a lot I can do about that except to continue to eat really healthily.

Assuming bloods are ok then I collect next months tablets tomorrow., on my way home from choir.

  • Daughters campervan has passed its MOT and is back here for her, with an inevitable bill….it needed a bit more work than just a MOT I think…..she said she’s going to have to work again! She’s back tomorrow evening, looking fit and well and brown!

  • Pants! Daughter is sat next to a lady full of cold on the flight! Can’t move as flight is full…..heck, she’s going to be back where she started! (And pass it on, too!)

This mornings walk was later as it was too cold to get out of bed first thing!

  • Looks as if I will be dog-minding Henry from Sunday…..it’ll be slower walks from then as he sniffs soooo much!

But that’s ok. Daughter is home from Dubai but has (like the whirlwind we used to know!) unpacked, repacked and taken decorating gear (some of mine too) to the flat she owns as she’s now going to sell it. So she’s already gone again!

Morning walk was chilly again though cloudy rather than frosty.

  •    your daughter has energy for sure and on the move again (?). I’m so jet lagged I can only look at the tins of paint waiting for attention. I might summon up the energy to do some housework today.
    Hope you’re doing ok xx

  • I know,  ! I think that’s the result of her fitness coaching to be honest. Plus maybe the pressure of work looming large, and knowing she needs to sell to get the capital to buy where she wants to live now.

she’s also still in Dubai time which got her up and working just after 5.30am today!!!

my walk today was later as I was expecting a parcel, but I did walk a bit further as I didn’t feel so rushed. Didn’t go into the last bit as the single track road goes into muddy footpath, I need it to dry up a bit but will then properly boot and walk it. Listened to birdsong, lovely! As son in law says, they’re getting ready to ‘lurve’ Joy
