It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Thank you Jo,

I'm going for a mastectomy and implant, immediately after Easter, so the surgeon wanted to see if it might be possible to put in the permanent implant or not. So it depends on the nodes, really. I think it should be in the next week or two. Maybe I should phone and ask time scales, and also what day they have their MDT.

I am in Bucks and for me everything seems to revolve around 2 weeks. 2 weeks for results and 2 weeks between appts.

    Hope this helps

Sending hugs to all on the thread

  • Thank you Leolady,

I'm attending Milton Keynes hospital, and yes, that was the same for daughter years ago, 2 weeks for test results, 2 weeks for clinics. But now she is between hospitals they are busy discussing how to go, maybe immunoglobulins, maybe not, maybe booster vaccinations. (Her very very low immune system)

I will phone up and ask when their MDT meetings are in the week, and whether they have a time scale for the sentinel nodes op. I just rang and there's no-one available. Will ring back.

  • So, MDT meetings are Wednesday and Friday for MKUH.

And yes, I’m firmly pencilled in (!) for the major surgery on Tuesday after Easter. And my lovely BCN is going to chase dates for the sentinel node biopsy.

Plus of course she understands my worries and fears!

  • ......and now I’ve told my big brother!  By email....He lives in Texas, USA and took citizenship a few years back. He’s almost 8 years older than me, and at 6 foot tall really is my big brother!

He actually had bowel cancer 11 years ago, so that means both of us in our generation are affected by the c word.  Cuss!

He was as always, very supportive and they will be thinking of me as I go through it all.

And now of course I can’t sleep although was yawning my socks off downstairs!

Daughter popped in on her way and then later phoned on her drive back home after her concerto rehearsal, she had been playing virtually 2 hours, not that easy for a trombonist, as the ‘lip’ or embouchure can get very tired! Bless her, she’s come such a long way, and is still battling with infections, on antibiotics at present! (See my profile for her long history too!)

Might have to pop into ‘AWAKE......’
