It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Tomatoes duly potted on and hubs is cooking some sausages for a sausage sarnie, lovely to see him pottering! We will set the next few peas this afternoon too as it looks as if they will get well watered over the next week or so!

  • How lovely that hubs is feeling well enough to potter! Isn’t it amazing how you really appreciate the simple things in life when you’ve not had them for a while. Great to have some better days. And sunshine always helps…. Love and hugs, HFxx

  • He’s gone downhill this evening AND I’ve managed to stir my dodgy back up, sacroiliac joint plus some sciatic pain, walking is painful, both putting left foot forward, to the floor and weight bearing on it. Done some abdominal strengthening work but I suspect ‘Sphinx’ move in yoga might have done some damage (I’ve had a dodgy back for many years) so will rest up a day or two.

  • This morning paracetamol is my friend but it only takes the edge off.....I did sleep but almost on my front to get off to sleep.
Hubs’ blood sugar is on the low side this morning as he didn’t manage much dinner.

    ah well....

  • Sorry to hear that your back is "playing up" - keep taking  the paracetemol to take the edge off it. Last thing you want is for it to go into spasm. No doubt though you will have a routine for when this happens and it will take its usual course.
It may be worth contacting the specialist urology nurse to see if they are planning to start Hubs treatment this week and so be able to book transport accordingly. It is well possible that they will be able to book transport at short notice for you. Fingers crossed.
I hope that Hubs blood sugar stabilises again, little and often might improve things a bit . Sending big but gentle hugs to you both. xxx Kwissy

  • Sorry you’re both having a rough time , it’s so annoying that his treatment still hasn’t started as hopefully it’ll help the nausea and appetite issues. So hard for you, managing all his needs when you’re in pain yourself. Any chance your son could come and help for a bit? Or is that too risky (I think he works with the public?)  Just feel you could do with some physical and moral support. Keep going fine lady and don’t hesitate to call for medical help yourself if your back worsens.

  • .....I'm sure you've thought of this but I was really sick with chemo and I couldn't eat . My diabetic husband was concerned knowing how sugar levels drop so he made me a warm ginger infusion then added liquid sugar to it. It did help. I sipped it over a period and as well as settling nausea, the sugar replenished some energy. As you can't cut the insulin......this might counteract the low sugar.

I hope your back feels easier soon. My sciatic nerve has been much better since the physio showed me the simple back bending exercise I mentioned before. I do it most days and the pain in my leg has practically disappeared but I have been lucky that I haven't done anything to aggravate it.

    Thinking of you both.

    Love Karen

  • Sorry you are having such a rough time . Hope your back settles quickly and hubs feels better soon xx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Ask GP for Naproxen !  It will kill pain long enough to help you sleep xx

  • There are a lot of drugs I can’t take, sadly  and I think that’s one. I just looked it up and it’s a NSAID, and they react with my asthma.....I do manage to sleep and in fact fell asleep this afternoon on the sofa!
