It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Hi  Good luck for today.

Good for you in raising your concerns with the hospital CEO and copying it to your MP (as a civil servant I know this is a good thing to do if you want action taken). Pants re the prescription - what is that all about!!!   I hate having to deal with my GP as I always think Im being a burden, but surely with a long term course of drugs it is less work for them to give you a full two months.

I had my SNB operation yesterday. Bit annoyed with myself.  I had a slice of toast at 6.30 before leaving as the surgeons secretary rang on Thursday to say I was later on the list so could do.  Arrived at 9, got the isotope injection and was ready by 11am, stockings and lovely knickers on etc...  The whole surgical team came to see me at 11.30 as they were ready to do me early!   But the they then discovered the piece of toast and I then had to wait until 2.30 for the operation as there was a delay with the other lady on their list.  It was a minor hiccup, but meant I wasnt discharged to go home until nearly 9.  No ones fault, as I was due to be taken down orginally by 12.30 so it would have allowed the 6 hours.  But I could have been home by 5 if I hadnt had the toast - we had a laugh about it in theatre as it disrupted everyone's day.

My operation went well, and my lovely surgeon came to tell me afterwards (at 8pm so a long day for him too) that my nodes were clear. Yippee.  Double mastectomy next, but no plan for that yet.

hope you colonoscopy went as well as can be expected!

Th first was from ththe hospital for 2 weeks supply, the second and third from GP. The 2 nd was 60 tabs and th 3 rd back down to 30!!!! I do my repeats all electronically and have a space to add comments so will be asking for the largest supply thy can give next time!!! Good luck with the letrozole

  • Hi Eddiboy,

SOOOO pleases your nodes are clear! Yay! And terrific for your surgeon to come and tell you that too, what service! A double mx....whew, one was bad enough! Power to you, lovey!

Seaspirit, pirouetting when coping with a drip stand, please just stay sat on the loo!!! Hope the colonoscopy proves fine with no problems, hubs had a large bleeding polyp cut out the first time that was pre-cancerous. So he gets follow on colonoscopies now, every few years.

Hi Jac, medication, eh? There doesn’t seem any reason for the stupidity other than big pharmaceutical companies deciding how to market their stuff! Maybe in week supply systems (leading to months comprising 28 days) they end up getting more money?!?!?

I had another 9 hours sleep, hope I can get sorted to enable me to stay up a bit later, as daughter is playing a concerto this coming Saturday, don’t want to fall asleep in the concert! Will have to take an afternoon nap even if I don’t want to!!

Facing a busy-ish day today too, BCU and then the food shop on the way home, a bit of singing prac to try to heal the gunk in my voice as I really want to start choir this week, will be missing 2weeks as we have holiday booked and the concert is end of June.

Hugs to all you lovely ladies xxx

  • Hi Seaspirit,

Daughter (freelance musician) hates playing Mozart all except the Requiem which she adores!

    I absolutely loved it too!

I guess too, it’s one of his works you never tire of.

Just a point on letrozole  until you find the brand that works best for you  there is little point pushing for multiple packs on prescription  Remember that the effects can be cumulative, so even if you feel great the first month, that may change.

  • Good thinking! The pharmacist added that too, that if I’m ok with Accord they would make sure that would be the brand I get....fingers crossed!

  • BCN is thrilled with how well I’m doing! Especially after the two surgeries!

I’ve got rid of the socks, phew, but not the drain, knew I wouldn’t, but she thinks hopefully by Friday.

She recommends a daily afternoon nap at present still, and to wear my crop top at night but says the boob is a good shape already.

Said I could try the Letrozole, recommended 3-6 months to hopefully stick with Accord and see if the side effects even out (says they often do) and was supportive about adding Claritin (generic Loratidine) to see if that helps with bone pain.

I’ve made an appointment with my GP to discuss all meds anyway next week as I think I might get able to modify the ones that give me dreadful indigestion at night.

So, onwards and upwards with my pal, the drain bottle! :(

Hugs to all you lovely ladies xxx
