Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

    Hi all

The sun is shining here at the moment, not sure how long for but I’ve put the washing out anyway.

Ive got a long weekend and had planned to start digging compost into the veg beds, ride my bicycle and hopefully get some of the grass cut. However I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and headache then got a random period! So I have been having bed rest or on the sofa, taking it easy and actually quite enjoying it! What else can one do and I have learnt now that jobs can wait Blush

The pic is from yesterday as I did take the boy for a short walk up the road. I saw them at the side of the road, maybe wild strawberries?

Hope you have a good day

  • Hi all, well I made up for a non-walking few days today - in and out of town this morning then mega walk this afternoon - 22,000 steps before we'd even nearly got home, think in all about 8-9 miles. Sitting now with a cup of tea and am quite happy not to get up again today! Not the loveliest of walks, nice destination (garden centre out in the country) but variable routes, some in countryside and by rivers but others along a busy road. Not many photos but met some gorgeous ponies.

Hopefully a dog walk tomorrow. Happy weekend all! HFxx

  • Wow that's a tremendous walk! I am trying to walk more. I do yoga twice a week and aqua fit once a week and trying to walk on the weekend(weather permitting) I live in Wales so it's usually raining! been up a couple of mountains and have just a moment ago been looking a walks in forest of dean ready for tomorrow. It's so easy to sit and do nothing but walking makes me feel so much better. Good on you and lovely photos

The trick to walking over hot coals, is courage. X
  • Wowwww - I've got 'Step Envy' Slight smile 22,000 Steps!!!!!! owww how fantastic.

Today I am at 8,254, I am pleased, I do want to get to 10,000 today. My walking has slowed the last few day, I was enjoying it, the trouble is, I can't and don't feel like my fitness is improving, I'm still lugging so much weight around (I have lost weight, with change of diet - trying to avoid diabetes), but fitness, eg walking up a particular hill (road hill, not a hill as in mountain) I am not seeing any improvement - yet others walk up and down here to their houses all the time!!

I found out about a site, you choose how many miles you plan to walk that particular month, you register (you have to pay), then at the end of the month you send in proof of how many miles your have walked (from fitness app, spreadsheet, etc) and if you have done the mileage - you get sent a medal with the month and year on it.  (when you register you can pay to enter just for the medal or pay a little extra and they send you a sports top too).  I can see it is open for people to cheat by sending in a 'false' spreadsheet - however they would be just cheating themselves.  I have just registered for this for this month in hope it will give me or help me to keep motivated.

    Loving all the photo's.

    - just want you to know, you are missed and we are thinking about you.

Keep Walking, just a few steps at time, they all add up xxxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x

    - what a walk!  So glad you are recovering so well physically.

    - you are doing well.  Keep trying.  I too am finding it a struggle but we will get there.

I am away with 2 work friends near Sedbergh.  Gentle strolls but lovely scenery. Our neighbours ...

    All you ladies are amazing

Inspired to go for a walk yesterday in between the rain showers and today have ordered myself a fitness tracker so I too can challenge myself to more steps.

Thank you for being here and helping me though the difficult days
