Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • Sorry to hear you don't have any answers about your treatment yet, .  Must be very frustrating.

Whilst I didn't get a sausage butty this morning, I met up with an old school friend that I really only see every few years, and we had lunch at Zizzi and a walk round Edinburgh.  It was a lovely sunny day here despite the forecast - sorry I didn't not take any pics. My son came too as it is half term and he was really great all day (he's on the autism spectrum so it can be a bit hit and miss on days out).

I didn't know that about the daffodil  but it makes sense with the Marie Curie symbol.

  • Hi all

I know this is a walking thread and I hi-jack it sometimes with a running post, but I figure running is like a sister to walking. Well tonight I am going to be even worse - maybe a distant cousin of walking. I really couldn't face a cold, dark run after work so I did the circuit training they taught me at the hospital "cancer gym" Fair enough, they used to make me do an hour and tonight I did 30 minutes but better than nothing!

Tomorrow I have an early doors appointment at the lymphoedema clinic so at least I can say I exercised today - hoping for a gold star obviously! Not sure how I feel about it - on the one hand, I've been waiting for it since October, but on the other - I will know for sure whether it is or isn't so there's a 50/50 chance that my last glimmer of hope will be dashed! I know it will be fine whatever and I am grateful for the opportunity to be here to have lymphoedema but.... you know!

BTW it's a hula hoop in the photo - had so much fun doing it at the gym sessions that I bought my own and completely recommend it - good for your core and suprisingly good cardio- plus you can't really hula without smiling.

just a little add on to the advice from Leolady56 - if you ever want to be able to find something that isn't a long-running thread, then underneath the 'email notifications' box is the 'discussion tools' box with the option to "save this discussion in my favourites" If you click on that then the link will be saved to your profile - from your profile you just click on Favourites from the left hand menu and it's all there. It's good if there is useful information in a thread that you want to come back to later - especially as our group is so busy - it can take ages to search for something!

    Happy pancake day everyone

  • Good Evening everyone,

Good Evening  - I was going to say, of course we love you posting about running, it inspires us and maybe one day... I can't really see this happening, but maybe, one day I may end up running too :o

Then you mention circuit training - this sounds really interesting, especially if there is a beginners section.  Oww now you start showing off with your 'hula hoop' workout ;)   (I'm only joking), owwwwww how I would love to hula hoop - both Mom and I have hula hoops..... can we do it, no chance, one wiggle around the waist and down to the floor it drops!!! We have tried and tried and tried, I can do it around my wrist and arm (I wouldn't recommend anyone doing this now with the risk of lymphoma!! Around my waist, I just can't do this :(

Ladies and Gentlemen maybe ronstar has given us all lessons on the hula hoop so we can have an 'indoor' activity - for when its too cold and wet to walk :)  xxxxx

Before I go, I will confess.... No walk for me today, it was cold and raining - it's no excuse and now I feel naughty for not making the effort.

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Some lovely walks ladies, llamas, geese, and Edinburgh my fave city :)

No nice walk for me but step counter says 8,571 today due to stomping about doing BF's housework, his cat has no front teeth so he's a messy eater :)

Ah - thanks. To be honest, the circuit training is a bit boring - squats, sit ups - that sort of thing - I just love my hula hoop though - everyone who sees it wants to try it and it has been the source of much laughing. Mine came with instructions, but it is hard - I drop it a lot. The physio set me a target of working up to 5 minutes - I've been doing it since last summer and I'm up to 2.5 minutes - hahaha.

The other indoor thing I liked was the wii  fit - but that's a much bigger investment!

It's lovely and sunny here today so hoping everyone has the same!

  •  is it a weighted hula hoop? I, thinking I could get into that, used to be able to do it!

Cold , wet and windy here north of London as well, but did go for a walk for 1/2 hour.  Certainly makes you appreciate a warm home to come back to!

    Hugs

  • it's not a properly weighted one - the one at the hospital was - but heavier than the plastic children's ones. It's just from Argos - they do a weighted one too, I think. This one tires me out enough for now :) - hope the rads appointment goes well.

I spoke too soon and it is now cloudy and wet - I really should know better than to think the weather will stay the same all day!

Forgot it was valentines day - hope everyone's having a good day

  • Oh my what a frustrating day....but I did do a half hour cold and wet walk before lunch

Rads appointment EPIC FAIL! My poor little boob has shrunk too much. i was so careful sorting out the seroma which is now behaving I didn't really realise but it is smaller. Nothing I could have done though just recovery from the trauma it's been through. So am now waiting to hear after th physicists have reviewed whether can go ahead or go back to planning!

just a delay and nothing more serious but oh sooooooo frustrating! Anyone else had this issue?

keep walking, if you can in this bloody awful weather!
