Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

Hello ladies I love your little dogs. Many years ago I used to have a black cockerpoo - he was a great little chap. I walk everyday but no longer with a dog. Pray

Ah ! Happy dog ! On another occasion I owned a blue grey whippet . There was always a dog Dog in my family life. Now however I have a ginger cat who keeps me company although not for walks . His favourite viewing space is sitting on the pergola in my little back garden. He is very fond of meditating.

  • Ah, a meditating cat, wow! Son’s dog scarcely stays still long enough unless he’s asleep! (Jack Russell terrier) I guess thats a ‘breed thing’?!

Really lazy nursing a cold today (asthma doesn’t like colds!) maybe I should call that meditating?! Hahaha!

    hugs xxx

  • Are they poodles ? Xx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Good Evening ladies,

Well you mentioning hydrated, its is funny, the day I walked and it seemed easier than expected was the first time I had filled a empty 2 litre plastic bottle with water and was drinking this throughtout the day, the day I found it tougher I hadn't drunk so much, so it does seem to make sense.  Loving the photo of the river xxxx

Hello Lovely I hope you had a good journey with lots of nice views, did you spot a Haggis - they are normally found on hill and in bushes, well, so I'm lead to believe.  Have a nice time, looking forward the beach photo's - brrrrr certainly will get the cobwebs blown away. Have a great time xxxx

Hello and again I hope you had a good journey and that you find your mum in good spirit, this time of the year can be a sad time, so plenty of giggles on order. Wishing you well for the appointment xxxx

Owww you made me chuckle, post of the week - this is so kind of you.  I am liking your suggestion of the 'reward' this does sound good. I may just have to put this into action xxxx

I feel for you , I've not long got over a cold, thankfully it had gone before Christmas.  I darling mum has one now, I'm in her bad books as I'm trying to avoid catching it - which means I've avoided visiting this week - I am phoning constantly throughout the day and would be straight there if needed, but... still in the bad book arrghh.  Wishing you a speedy recovery xxxx

Hello  loving the woofers, bless them. I hope all went well at the dentist.

and now for my confession....... drum roll please.... I went out and walked, it took me a while to get myself together and pushed myself out, once out I had a really nice walk, I actually enjoyed it - I wonder if walking is something you can 'get into - that you want to actually go out and walk' - if so, I hope I can be part of this.

I really 'thought' I'd covered more steps than I actually had, however, I got out there.

The support here is brilliant - sending love to all xxxxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • ....thanks Hon.

just to say, yes, exercise is definately “something you get into..that you actually want to go for a walk”

I can attest to that!I never had a “sporty” bone in my body, and avoided exercise like the plague!

But after my DIEP,I came home to find that I wasn’t at all fit,and woukd go all fainty and breathless just going to the bank!!

Quelle Domage, especially since I needed to shop etc and dont have a car!!

Anyway,my twin bro and older sister by email, both started nagging me to go to gym .

So silly of them I thought, and also ignored them since they are suuuuch sporty types and always have been(.Far too much like hard work!!)

Anyway,I started going to gym thro a scheme put on by local Surgery where they paid half your first 3 months.when I asked the GP she said “You’re not obese....”but in fact the scheme was relevant as I needed to get fit after my cancer.

Some weeks they were the only people I met,and were friendly and we started to have some banter,(the trainers weren’t at all stuffy.)

Then a funny thing happened...I actually started to enjoy it!!(and I did start to “get fit”(I had to go to physio at one point and my physio ,memorably ,one day was looking at my arms and said I looked “fit”,in a throw away remark.(I think he meant “fit “fit, not “fit”fit.)never been told that before!!obviously my T shirt hid some ugly secrets!!)

and my breathless ness and dizzy spells eventually got better!!and whats more,I was enjoying it!!

I will tell you a secret,I Read my book on the cycle quite happily ,and nobody bothers me!!

And to help you,I am still,18 months later,on the warm up exercises!!....you don’t have to knock yourself out...as my PT said,it is good that I am having the activity.

    I think it’sthe endolphins xxxx
