Well. Welcome to this thread.

You may be surprised why it is here or happy it is here. Then again: ‘You have got to be joking! Do you know what is wrong with me?’ may be your response.

This all began on the Extreme Fatigue thread. On there several people wanted and needed inspiration/incentive to get out and walk. Many people see the benefits of it in their life and to help on this; mad journey, train ride, rollercoaster ride and other positively rude words journey called Breast Cancer.

It is not a thread created to make anyone feel less than they do at present. It is not a thread that will set people against one another. Being competitive with yourself or a simple challenge to yourself is the point, but not a race against others is a key premis.

The idea is that you can do any of these or none:

  1. Post when you have walked.
  2. Post how many minutes you walked for.
  3. Post how you felt before, during or after. Or not at all.
  4. Post pictures from your walk, but ones that do not point to where you live.
  5. Post inspirational quotes, thoughts or comments.
  6. A simple like of people’s efforts is fine. No need to write an essay unless you feel the need.
  7. On a safety note. Do tell friends, family or the thread when you leave and return safely. Be aware of your personal safety at all times.

Well here goes.

Either it will grow and blossom, with lots of lovely people benefiting. Or I will have egg all over my face – not for the first time in my chequered life and career.

Leolady – may be adding in the odd gallop to my walks.

PS if you don't like us don't be cruel.

  • Hi Flossie,

I also had a long read of a US publication which said out of all mastectomy ops, the quickest emotional recovery was for ladies who had immediate reconstruction, of whatever type, but the best of all results mentally were for implants. I didn’t read that till well after I’d had mine but it confirmed what I already was thinking, it echoed that ‘waking to see two ‘bumps’ however different when you stand up!

However, as for the speedy recovery, don’t forget I was a therapist so rehab comes very naturally to me, and I felt horrified when I was so weak, I worked hard at walking to build up stamina again, first walk (a long one so soon after the op) was to get out of the ward!!!

But, again, it has to be your decision!

    Hugs xxx

Good evening walkers, joggers, skippers, gym bunnies and those who thought about it

As Maccy was enjoying a meltdown from outside influences last night, I did not get to post my pics. I will be good and keep them small as I know pics are a bit of an issue for the site

Lots of walking, 6km in all, around the grounds of????

Found a book too. Teashop Walks. Start or end your walk at local teashops. Wellllllllllll I couldn't resist it on the grounds of ?????? Support for local businesses

  •

Yum! I just love ice cream (it's largely responsible for the 2 stone I put on when on chemo) That looks like a great selection - reason to visit Bexhill!

  • It’s not exactly a ‘kiss me quick’ seaside place, Ronstar, it’s more a centre for sheltered/care/nursing homes, and a rather tired main shopping street, but is good for what we both want, a quiet seaside with great walks/wheels for OH.

And a few rather special places like the Italian ice cream parlour! Yum!

  • Hi...I actually had a DIEP and am happy with it...but you must make up your own mind...

    oh,...those icecreams!!I love icecream,especially gelato.

but my trainer gave me some results today from my being at the gym twice a week and low-fat, for a year.Well,I have lost 4 kg and my BMI seems to be nearly within normal guidelines. My muscle /fat ratio is so much better!!

was quite proud, until he told me

he would like me to lose another 10 kg!!

well,my ca meds put on weight so it is a bit of an uphill battle...

but am so pleased to see the first results!!xx

I must admit, after battling for a year,I do give in to the odd gelato....and really,I think that’s ok...we all need a little treat now and then xx(my friend said to me today,”Everything in moderation”,but I said...”well sometimes they are not very moderate....”x

the piccie is what I came home and did with my mannequin after I had seen the lovely costumes in “Swan Lake”

  • Ha ha

I am very familiar with that kind of seaside - I grew up in Devon and have a relative who is confined to a wheelchair so I am often to be found at the more genteel parts of the coast! Much nicer than candy floss and amusement arcades. You seem to be having a lovely time!!

  • Hi  ... I have read something similar somewhere online today... I think it also said that there are still a good percentage of mx only who are happy also... I also think of those ladies who can’t have recon so they’ve no choice. There is a bigger uptake of recon these days but I don’t know what the factors are eg. age for instance, more genetic testing, or availability. Having an implant is “ instantaneous “, shorter op than flap recon and if any problems can be removed. I have yet to do research into them on types, safety aspects and how long they last etc, although I think it’s 10-15 years. I’ll certainly do more reading.

Hello my friends! I’ve been enjoying all your pics and news last few days...

Leolady56 I’ve no idea where you were yesterday though I like the look of it. Can we have some clues? I like the sound of your new book also!

Moomy let’s hear it for Bexhill, your description is bang on. I love the place and it has its own charm, also lovely clean beaches and water, the pavilion, the ice cream...

Violetsniff I love your mannequin, that’s fab. You must have been buzzing from the show.

Flossie25 you are in a hard place. I had a DIEP, I am very happy with how I look in clothes and in my swimwear. Whatever you decide will be OK. And you can always have things changed or tweaked in future if you want to.

Ronstar, ejected from a bus, I had a vision of you flying through the air! What a good spot for work I hope the walk wasn’t too much extra.

I’ve been out for a dog walk with my friend this evening and we came upon a mass of foxgloves, it was quite something.

Have a good evening and a wishing you all a lovely sleep

  • Hi  ... you seem to be very artistic. I think you’re very brave to have had a DIEP but good that you’re happy with results. I recall you saying about your 2 year “anniversary“ so I presume your op was round about then.

Well done on your successful gym sessions. My OH is going off to see family overseas while I’m waiting for op so I’m going to have to get active and reduce my carbs and comfort eating...I’ve done a lot lately!!

    xx
