So in   5 days time I have the operation to remove the tumour - randomly known as Ian.

Why in the last few days have I become incredibly tired and emotional ??
Did anyone else feel the same?
  • I seem to recall being told I had to drink a litre of water in the hour before my contrast CT....

That sounds about right, and the my hospital has notices that says if you're having a pelvic scan you have to drink another 2 glasses of water whilst in the department, although you can go to the loo! Which is a good thing as I have a bladder the size of a grape!

The iodine contrast is always an 'interesting' sensation - a feeling of spreading warmth throughout the body and then the strange 'need a wee' feeling!!!

  • Never mind need a wee!!! It felt like I had one!!!

I'm having chest, abdomen and pelvic scan, so I'm doomed on the bladder and contrast side effects front, hence the tena reference. I'm just not convinced i can drink a litre in half hr. Fun and games

Bigguy, I've used a menstrual cup,for the past few years, wish I'd kniwn about them sooner, so I'd not have that issue of left overs in cupboards, i guess a local homeless shelter type place may take any sealed leftovers?

Just reread my letter, says may need to give iv of contrast, so guess I'll find out on weds if i get to experience the warm, wetting yourself sensation or not, fx for the latter, but i suspect that'll not be the case.

    Hi JollyG

I struggle to drink that much, in fact I don't think I've ever drunk that much in such a short time! I just do as much as I can - there has never been a problem with my scans, they just get a better picture of the pelvis area when you drink a fair amount I think!

As for the weird feeling - they do warn you about it, and you get used to it once you've had a few CTs with contrasts done, but it is strange the first time!! It only lasts about 30 seconds though, so it's not a long term thing!

    OMG

The CT scan and warm wee feeling. Jeeps that was back in November and seems like an age ago. Lots of water and lots of wee . Blimey they know how to give us airs and graces

Rubbish day but no worse than we all experience at some point

In bed early with my meditation music healing away my soul. Hubby has been a star . He was allowed out with a pal for Sunday beer. Bless. We had fish and chips homemade . Gawd we are so rocking it here

So to each and everyone take care

Dance gallop skip roller blade and smile at the people whose job it is day in day out to give the news. The wonderful docs and nurses

I've just found out about move more.....anyone else heard of it?

I only came across it as a friend is doing her course for being qualified to coach it. Its a physical activity programme for those affected by cancer. The one near me does group exercise, gentle movement, group walks. Mcmillian are linked to it. Funny how my bcn has never mentioned it to me, despite knowing I'm active and play sport comeptitively. Sounds like an ideal way to get out out the house with a purpose and get some gentle exercise in during recovery/treatment to help combat fatigue and loneliness etc.  Might not be for everyone, but thought someone may find it useful.

I've not heard of move more. How does it work, we've got a Macmillan centre at our hospital but I've no idea if I'm allowed to go to their department without 'invitation'?

  • Jolly - hadn't heard of it but going to investigate. I'm determinrd not to be inactive through this so would be definitely interested if there was anything near me. Thanks for the info.
