  • We didn’t get another Aurora here, did have a Quick Look but no luck. (No idea why I got upper case letters there!)

son has gone home so the house feels quiet but he’s a bit hard work bless him. His hubs is back from a long-wished for yoga retreat, so glad they are back together, Stanley-dog was overjoyed apparently.

Night night Fruit Loops, sleep well and stay safe, plenty of sleepy fairy dust for all who wish

  • Well Good Morning Fruit Loops! Yes I know it’s only ‘just’ morning! Although considering the name of the thread and the reason for my post, the timing is very apt!

    I’m on here to say…..

Yes that’s correct, it’s been 7 years to the day/night that I first found myself starting a post in the middle of the night, because I couldn’t sleep and just needed to let off some steam! Little did I expect for the thread to still be here and active 7 years later!! Neither did I expect to still be here! So there’s another plus!

I am so pleased that this thread continues on to offer love and support to anyone who needs it. Most of you have joined because you to found yourself unable to sleep and you stumbled across this thread aptly named AWAKE! Little did you know that you were walking into a thread that would keep you coming back day after day, week after week, month after month and for some of us year after year!

But why? What makes this thread different from the others! Well I can answer that…. YOU! That’s right you, you reading this right now! You are a Fruit Loop who needed to feel heard. To feel listened too. To feel part of a group who didn’t just see you as a Cancer sufferer, but was also seen as a person! A person who still had more going on in their life, other than Cancer! A person who was sometimes scared, sometimes needed a moan, sometimes wanted to shout, sometimes needed advice, sometimes wanted to help others and above all else sometimes wanted/ needed to have a Laugh!  Yes laugh!

Coming on the AWAKE thread made you a Fruit Loop! It didn’t matter how long you were part of the thread or how often you posted, you were a Fruit Loop and we all cared for each other! Some people were able to meet in person and become real life friends, some people messaged each others and became friends that way, others just became close on this thread. It didn’t matter which type of Fruit Loop you were, we were and are always here for each other!

We have seen many Fruit Loops move on to enjoy life to the full. We have sadly had Fruit Loops who have passed on. Also Fruit Loops who are here for the long term (the longer the better) Each and every one of you has had something to add to the thread and has left a little piece of ‘you’ in this thread! I don’t know how long this thread will go on for…. Probably until it get too big for the macmillan tech people…… but I for one hope it’s a long time! Because while there are like minded people out there who need the love, support and Friendship of the Fruit Loops then this thread is needed as much now to those looking for help as it was 7 years ago when I was looking for help!

So Fruit Loops, all I can say is a Big THANK YOU and…..

Continue doing what you do best! Just being the amazing people you are! Oh and don’t forget to keep laughing! After all LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE!

DISCLAIMER; I am in no way saying you should not have the treatment offered and just sit there all day laughing!! But surely none of you are that ‘Loopy’? Are you?? FlushedFlushedFlushedFlushed

Keep going Fruit Loops, you’re absolutely bloody Loopy and I think you are all AMAZING!

Love to you all from Sal xxxxx

  • Well done   for the inspiration of a thread that wasn't a 'question' , wasn't medical or technical but a thread that allows us to be real people living every day lives which may include treatments or trauma or simply doing ordinary things that can be shared by the friendships you describe so well. There is something about the shared knowledge of the bc that allows an understanding to offer support. We have all needed it and received it and I hope given it too. And yes.....laughing at ourselves too has been such a tonic.

I will save the story of what happened to me yesterday for another time......you couldn't write a soap opera to include it!

Take care   .....thank you and know we are thinking of you too.  Enjoy your holiday and then we hope the new treatment goes well.

  • You are a great inspiration to us all. I'm sleeping at present, it comes and goes. It has a lot to do will lack of oestrogen and my son's Epilepsy. So enjoyed walking at Leonardslea yesterday. My husbands 75th birthday. I didn't see the Northern lights at all. I woke up at 330 am so was knackered the day if the happening. Seen some amazing pics in Facebook by Elliot MC something, I'll put one up here.

Good luck with your treatment LondonLass and enjoy your travels.

  •    this thread has been a life saver for me, as well as a lot of other Fruit Loops. I'd like to thank you so much for coming up with the idea, because as we all know, in the dark days of diagnosis, treatment and recovery it's a great place to pop into to remind you that there is life still for all of us outside of cancer.

I lose count of the number of times I have cried with laughter reading some of the posts on here...yes admin we REALLY do need a laughing emoji PLEASE Pray

I don't make a lot of posts, but I love reading what everyone is getting up to.   , I hope you have a totally fabulous holiday and that the upcoming treatment will be bearable.

how are you doing? I hope you are being sensible and resting up lots? Don't go rushing the recovery!!!

Much love to all the Fruit Loops

  • Hi  and fellow Loops, I’ve been hit by a bit of a wall this afternoon. I’ve been good and rested but done the exercises, pottered about quite a bit each morning but although I haven’t slept this afternoon I feel totally exhausted suddenly. I guess it’s totally understandable, I needed antibiotics as I was beginning a grotty chest on Friday, they put me on a complete weeks worth, I’ve still got 3 days left. Maybe it’s that? Not sure.

I’ve checked in with BCN this lunchtime too, they seem to think things (sensation in armpit) should improve once swelling is down and the huge amount of bruising has gone (it’s beginning to glow a bit yellow and purple now!), plus I wanted to check about the stockings (I’m wearing mine which are very similar but are fitted length wise so I don’t have to turn them down at the knee!) and can stop wearing them when and as I want - I have them for varicose vein pain!

Anyway, that’s far too long a moan…. I’m doing ok really after what was apparently a big operation.

  •   listen to that body of yours.its telling you that you've been through a lot and that you've got to take it easy. There are good days, and some not so good days. It sounds as if today is one of the no so good days, so just rest up and see what tomorrow brings. Remember our mantra..one day at a time?!?!

Interesting description of the bruising. Perhaps a close up picture of just the bruising and you could pretend it was the Aurora !?!?!Rofl

    Rest up.

    Sally xx
