I had my first dose of EC chemotherapy last Thursday. I knew going in that sickness would be an issue (and it was), since then I've felt tired and fairly light headed. All I can taste is salt in everything and I can't satisfy my thirst. Are these regular side effects that will continue through, are there any others I should watch out for and any tips on how to deal with any of them? Thanks for any advise x
hi pmamummy
I haven't heard of that one before ?

Hi, Its Epirubicin and Cyclosphosphamide.
NO other health issues before this. I just didn't expect the first dose to knock me as much I guess. The sickness was bad the first day and I ended up in A&E for more anti sickness and fluids and thankfully have not been sick since! My head is tingling and feels like its in a clamp a lot of the time.
Other drugs are:GCSF Lenograstim (today is last day of these injections for this round), Ondansetran, Dexamethasome and Domperidone
hi
I had EC and the other 3 but no injections
I have to admit that i didn't take the steroids, other than the one they give you before the infusions, I think steroids might make you thirsty but I'm not sure about the salty taste?
I can't remember now, I know food didn't taste of anything much and my snack of choice was cheese and biscuits because it was less cardboardy than other things. In fact it was the texture of food that was more of an issue for me, I had to hide apples in porridge.
maybe add this into the January chemo club ?

Hi pmummy,  I had fec so ec with the 5fu added in. The nausea was a problem for me and so they gave me emend for the second cycle which  helped.  I used to feel fuzzy before a got out of the chair and felt like I had a really bad hangover, horrible taste and generally bleugh it took to about day 7 before it started to lift and felt ok if abit tired from day 10 onwards. The gscf injections made me ache.  I took all the meds offerred as I felt so rough and nibbled ginger bicuits/tea (i cant look at ginger know!). Hang in n there it does get better and as Carolyn suggests hop over to the Jan chemo club xxxc
I may be completely off track, but I think in a few cases you can get chemo induced diabetes. The excessive thirst is my reason for querying it. I would make sure your oncologist knows as soon as possible.
Hi
A bitter/metallic taste is common but I haven't heard of the salty taste or excessive thirst. I had the opposite in that I literally had to force water down.
The head in the vice sounds very familiar!
After day 3 post chemo you should find you pick up and start to feel brighter.
Love

Hi Pmamummy,
I've just started EC chemo last week, I've had FEC before, 10 years ago and the taste I got then was very metallic, but this time everything tastes of salt as yourself, i keep a bottle of Listerine in my bag or a small bottle of corsodil but note this can make you teeth get brown spots. Pineapple or melon before food did help a bit and it won't last forever and it does fade away. Hope I have alleviated your fears and anxiety a little bit.
If your sickness is still bad ask them to give you Akynzeo on the day of chemo. It’s one of the strongest ones so should do the trick. Hope the side effects get better for you.Â
