I had my first dose of EC chemotherapy last Thursday. I knew going in that sickness would be an issue (and it was), since then I've felt tired and fairly light headed. All I can taste is salt in everything and I can't satisfy my thirst. Are these regular side effects that will continue through, are there any others I should watch out for and any tips on how to deal with any of them? Thanks for any advise x
Hi
Just wanted to provide some balance...I had 7 or 8 lots of EC at end 2019 and felt rough (lethargic, listless, body 'odd') for the week after but not sick or nauseous per se. I did lose my sense of taste, curries became even more tasty! I went off some food & drink and like another lady that's commented water wasn't as enjoyable but with some cordial was fine.
There are people like me who have few side effects so don't assume you'll get all of them/the 'bad' ones.
Btw I took at the standard meds provided by the chemo unit...coincidence or not re lack of side effects? Who knows.

Hi there
Sorry to hear you had such a bad fist session . I had 2 EC so far and honestly the first one was worst , I think because of me being panicked or I what I read it might happen ..I think out mindset is SO important . I end up ringing the emergency line twice in 2 hours as I was vomiting and didn t like the idea , they were really helpful and the nurse who has spoken to me o. That day called me the next day just to check up on me , it was quite emotional for me ..so far I feel nauseous the day of my treatment and then the following 2 days extremely tired and then I start to slightly pick up and feel better . Is really important that you speak up to your nurse, doc and the emergency line , don't suffer in pain , they are there to help and is something can be improved for you there s no point to suffer .
I have 2 more EC to do and then 12 weekly carbo/paclitaxel which I hear is so much easier than EC .
If you don t mind me asking what s your regimen ? Take care and speak up when you feel rough , you're not alone , we re all in this together and here we deffo really understand what you're going through .
Hi ,I have 6 sessions EC 21 cycles.I did phone up twice through first night as couldn’t stop all night .then they said come in . Today I managed to eat something & water . Stomach & ribs have improved today as was so painful from sickness.spoke to nurse. She is emailing doctor for better anti sickness for next session.
This is what you have to do , keep phoning them until they find what works for you . I think in the beginning is a lot to take in by your body , I started to feel slightly better with my antisickness at My 2 Nd treatment but is better to try something else if is not working well for you . Hope they find a good one for you so you start to settle up soon .is really hard when you don t really know how your body will react isn't it ? I think this is the worst part , waiting to see what happens ..
Take care xx
