Hi All

Can I have some feedback please?

For the past couple of years since diagnosis of BC I have endeavoured to 'clean up my act' on lotions and potions.  I started using Bionsen once I found out about all the aluminium that goes into other deodorants.  I am now at the point that I sometimes have to put on Bionsen twice a day - my armpits become a bit stinky!

In the early days it wasn't like this and I 'think' this is as a result of getting rid of the aluminium, which is designed to clog the pores, being totally cleared from my armpits.  It's not critical I know and I can put on more Bionsen, but I would like to know if other ladies also experience this?  I've never been a stinky armpit person throughout my life but it is beginning to bother me a bit.

Look forward to hearing from you.

I would say so Judith. The ingredients for Weleda are:

Alcohol, Water (Aqua), Fragrance (Parfum)*, Ammonium Gycyrrhizate, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Oil, Melalueca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Limonene*, Linalool*, Geraniol*, Coumarin*.

It does however contain alcohol so its swings and roundabouts.

The Green People only profess to not use 'pore clogging aluminum' and the reason they can advertise as having a 89%  Organic product  is by the use of Potassium Alum as its a natural occurring mineral. Its a clever way to market.

Saying all that, there Is no evidence (according to CRUK) that aluminum is linked to BC :

    http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-us/cancer-news/news-report/2007-09-03-no-evidence-for-breast-cancer-deodorant-link

As we are use to....................... its down to personal opinion. personally I don't think my BC was caused by deodorant but then I have made changes to make up, skin care, organic food and household cleaning products.

    Still working on the wine............

Yes, I think it does look safer - and I think I might try the sage one myself. I am really sorry if I scared you - I can be bit abrupt sometimes!

Please don't worry though, as I'm pretty sure there has still not been anything scientifically proven, that aluminium causes/affects breast cancer. I think during radiotherapy they say avoid to lessen skin irritation.

    Anything you can add George?

    Hi

I use a deodorant called 'Keep It Kind Missy' which doesn't contain alcohol, parabens or aluminium - costs around £3 from Tesco. I find it works really well too, hope this helps.

Hi, I tried the Bonsen but didn't like it.  I've invested in a Vichy deodorant - it's expensive but works really well.

    Hope that helps. Jo x

    Hi Chloecat45,

Not sure if you have tried the salt rock deodorant. This was recommended to me by the Radiotherapist - I Had stopped using deodrant due to the aluminium content and wasn't using anything and became rather self conscious because my arm pits began to smell. I got the salt rock deodrant from Holland and Barrett cost was around ÂŁ6.00. I have been using this since the end of June and have found it works a treat and is very cost effective as still using this first one I bought.

Good luck and I hope you find something to suit you.

I use rock salt too. I find it works really well  (though my daughter didn't so I guess everyone's different) and lasts ages.

    Hi,

I have been using Ice Guard crystal deodorant since my op in early March. Does not contain any of the nasties, no smelly armpits, and still using the first one which is going to last a while yet. ÂŁ4.99 in Holland and Barrett. When it eventually runs out I will definitely replace it with the same.

    Best wishes xx
