Did/does your breast cancer tingle? Could this be a common symptom?

Before you knew you had BC did you have an odd tingling/itching or like faint pins and needles in your breast? I did. Then I found a lump which turned out to be cancer.

The tingling was always there and was the reason I had surgery before chemo even though my surgeon would have preferred me to have chemo first to shrink it.  I could 'feel' my cancer: it was there, taunting me (in my head) and so I wanted that nasty little thing out and dead in a Petri dish!

The reason I'm asking this is couldn't find anything that listed the tingling as a symptom of breast cancer. Is it common? If so, then maybe it should be listed.

    Thanks everyone.

I had some slight irritation, nothing to see, kept using creams to make it go away. Nothing helped and it was enough to make me continually rub or press the side of my breast to try to stop it. Thinking back this probably started about a month before I found my lump - 3cm grade 3 invasive ductal tumour. During my wait for diagnosis I researched and didn't find anything really listing irritation, itching, pins & needles or altered sensation as a symptom or indicator or breast cancer.

If this is common enough maybe we can get this listed as a symptom. Please respond if you had any altered sensations in your breast prior to diagnosis

Now that I have seen this thread and thought back, long before I found a lump,I had a persistent itchy nipple on the side cancer was diagnosed. I thought nothing of it at the time. I suppose we should be vigilant for any change but I had not thought of an itch as a possible symptom! I would now!

Hi, I also had an odd tingling in my left breast, just a couple of weeks before my routine mammogram was due.

I didn't think too much about it at the time , didn't even mention it. I was recalled for another mammogram which confirmed a twenty ml lump which could not be felt on examination.

I did mention at the treatment stage that I had felt an odd tingling sensation but I don't think that the breast team really listened.

I have had surgery, clear lymph nodes and margins, followed by radiotherapy. My cancer was Er + and Her2 negative.

My breast has healed well but is still itchy, I assume this to be the healing process. Oncologist seems pleased with my progress. Interesting discussion. Jean

    Hello there,

I too have had this odd tingling yet not excessively painful sensation on my affected breast with an itchy nipple.  I found that just holding and lightly pressing the affected area made it go away and it was during one of these episodes that I found the lump.  I've only just been diagnosed and am awaiting the lumpectomy in January..... As it stands they have graded the b@&£@:? Lump as a grade 3 and it is currently 1cm but I have calcification deposits around it..... About 4cms.  They are removing this too as it could be precancerous...... I'm not yet 40.

I did inform the medical team right from the beginning about the odd, slightly painful sensation but they didn't seem too bothered by it and I well, thought maybe I was making a mountain out of a molehill.... Sigh it seems like everything nowadays is "more " than normal for me.

Thanks for the thread.... I hadn't joined the forum until I read this.

Welcome to the forum, Petrosa.as you have already found, this is a great place for help and support.  We have all been where you are now and can pass on our own experiences as you go along.

After your operation I assume you will be having chemo because of the grade, and your age so at that point you may wish to join the chemo club of whichever month you are in.we like to start as we like to keep people together and it is easier to keep information and experience together.

Fingers crossed that all goes well for your op., one thing at a time.  Enjoy your Christmas and don't waste time worrying about what ifs.

Thank you for posting this. I was having a difficult time trying to put into words what I was trying to find out.

    You described it perfectly.
I was hoping to see that there were some instances where this sensation was being felt, that turned out to be anything other than cancer.
I'm going to be 45 in May and just had my first mammogram the 7th and was called back on the 8th. Have an appointment the 14th. They will do the paddle x-ray then decide if they need to do an ultrasound... biopsy...so on.
Once I knew they saw something, I began to feel around, and sure enough
Not only did I feel a BB size knot, I noticed, what I now have learned is called, a dimple/pucker. Today I started feeling the tingling... Which is now alarming since the questionable mammogram.
What scares me more is that I've been feeling this for a while. I'm trying to figure out how long because I thought nothing of it for so long, just figured I had an occasional sensitive nipple. Now I'm realizing that I have felt more comfortable with my bra on 247, then without. I actually sometimes blamed my sensitivity on the fact that I was so used to wearing my bra, that going without it was causing the tingle.
I can't even wrap my head around what's going to happen next week. If I've been having this feeling for a couple of years
( I'm guessing because I was never worried about it, I don't remember when it started)
I can't imagine what they're going to find.
Thank you for being able to describe this. It's almost like an electrical current.
I've never joined a forum or discussion board before. I'm so glad this was/is here.
    Thanking you all,
    Libby

Hi there I wanted to welcome you to this site, strange place to be I know but one where you will find lots of support, advice, care and non judgmental comments.

It is a heck of a ride I am afraid for some of us and for others it is a quick dip onto the site then the diagnosis is fine.

I wanted to point out that this is an old thread back to 2015 but glad you found it and got some relief from  the answers.

You may want to re-post your information or join another discussion.

The ladies on the thread Need Advice are mostly new to the site and to BC. Link tap this to get you to it.

I posted way back in Nov 2017 and now have some amazing virtual friends who support and make me laugh. YUP we even do that too. And lots of rugby banter yesterday too

The best, and most difficult thing to do is; wait until the professionals have said what it is. Dr Google needs keeping away from too outdated info on there. This and other reputable sites will give you some advice.

Now take care, be gentle with yourself and if you need to keep posting. Someone will reply and support you.

Sending gentle hugs and positive thoughts

    Leolady

  • Hi,yes I had the itchy tingling thing on my right breast, just put my hand on it to scratch it and oh my god there was a lump it was hard and craggy , I just thought it was a Cyst but it was Lobular Cancer, I had always had mammograms since 50 no problems, then at 72 had Cancer after having a memo 18 months previous, had all treatment now glad it’s over but it’s still a worry:

Hi I was wondering how you are getting on?! Only just joined this forum and came across the ‘tingling’ symptom.

I’ve had this for around 8wks goes from being itchy to electric current type feeling when nipple is touched/knocked. No lump so I thought but my GP found one & has referred me to breast clinic.

    Cheers x

Hi.. I have been getting tingling in 1 area of my left breast for about 3 months.. I have no other symptoms though. I have not been to the gp to get it checked yet . I normally describe it as a vibration.

The he reason I have looked it up is because my sister who is at the end of her life due to cancer got what she called vibrations in an area where she discovered cancer but 2 years before she found out.

    Thanks
