Did/does your breast cancer tingle? Could this be a common symptom?

Before you knew you had BC did you have an odd tingling/itching or like faint pins and needles in your breast? I did. Then I found a lump which turned out to be cancer.

The tingling was always there and was the reason I had surgery before chemo even though my surgeon would have preferred me to have chemo first to shrink it.  I could 'feel' my cancer: it was there, taunting me (in my head) and so I wanted that nasty little thing out and dead in a Petri dish! 


The reason I'm asking this is couldn't find anything that listed the tingling as a symptom of breast cancer. Is it common? If so, then maybe it should be listed.

    Yes, I had this.  I developed it one Thursday and it was irritating me.  I thought if it's still here Monday I'll got to the Dr.  It stopped on the Sunday.  The following Thursday it started again.  I went to the GP on the following Monday and he couldn't feel anything, but he referred me for a mammogram.  I got a call on the Tuesday to go in on the Wednesday but I couldn't make it so went the following week.  And the rest, as they say, is history.  

    I always say to people that there is a fifth symptom - pain and or tingling.

    I didn't have tingling but boy did I have itching. I unfortunately didn't even consider the itching was connected to BC. I am a runner and would find when I got hot I would have to scratch until I was red raw. This must have gone on for at least 12 months.

    I then went on to find a lump that was 25mm. I too am surprised that 'sensations' such as tingling and itching aren't documented as a symptom.  I guess that its common to have itchy boobs so to give this as a symptom of BC would panic too many people too often.

    Hi, with hindsight, yes I did. I didn't think about it until afterwards when I wasn't getting it anymore. It wasn't all the time and wasn't uncomfortable but think it was definitely a sign. I haven't mentioned it to any medical people but having seen this thread I will now in the hope it can be listed.

    Hi Teresa, yes I had a strange tingling sensation behind the nipple where the tumour was eventually found.  I especially noticed it in bed at night. 

    Maybe this is something that should be more widely recognised.

    Yes I had alot of itching but I kept putting it down to an underwired bra that i used to wear. It took me a month to visit the doc which was only because I them found a lump. Been in remission for 7 years now but I still cannot look at an under wired bra without shivering.

  • I can't say I had any specific tingling or pain or similar, just a feeling of some kind of action in my breast. This went on for a couple of months and then I found the lump.

    Thank you everyone who's responded so far. It's not 'in our heads', this is real. Hoping more ladies will see this and respond

    I found the lump because it itched. A grade 3 1.5 lump.

    I went to see my GP because I had some 'feelings' across the top of my left breast. Nothing was detected when she examined me but a mammogram and ultrasound showed a lump in my right breast. (I've had surgery and am now on chemo)

    Yes, I had a burning sensation in my breast but no real lump. It was then discovered that I had invasive lobular cancer of 5 cm! This change of sensation needs to be listed.
