  • Hi

Some areas in the East had it very rough indeed . Some roads still waiting to open . It was however followed by the most beautiful few days at just the right time to allow the water to drain away . Coincided with a few days away so wonderful . It’s horrible today but makes it easier to pack up and head home for winter .

Started mum with a privately purchased lady once a month to take her out on socials  . She phoned last night to say she had such a wonderful time she would like to increase it . Plus the lady liked Roflstening to all her older stories . RoflGrinning. Just so pleased it went well and we can build it in more for holidays and back up . I get very anxious that if I have a cold she will not have the support to get her to hospital or out and about . Taking this pressure off a bit has been wonderful .

So glad your granddaughter was ok as it seemed to take the worst of the storm .
Also pleased you are not on as much . That’s so healthy that you are back out living life away from all that is cancer .

    Take special care ,

  • What a great idea.I hope they have some lovely outings together

    Kath

  • That sounds both like a really good idea and a very good plan both for now and the future.  I would not have thought of that, I have heard of people getting in private care rather than the ones provided by social care services and finding it better.   My friends son is disabled he only has use of one side but he works for an agency and he goes into peoples homes.  He went into one young persons home, a younger man than himself who was also disabled….he does small jobs in his home but they do things together, this young person requested my friends son be the one they send…he has been there with him several years now and it works well for both of them. Both get their needs met.

It’s also good for your peace of mind too, and for that I’m very pleased…don’t you just love it when something like this works out.

almost coming to end of October, seeing lots of homes decorated for Halloween makes me smile some people’s skills and imagination. Have a good rest of October whatever you do.

  • I think it is going to work out really well  .

I have suddenly felt incredibly tired the last few months and despite my best efforts it’s hanging around .So maybe a window to do a few other things might be just what I need .

I think I have become a bit of a compulsive knitter since my dad died . All in its way to a charity now but I do think it helped me process things . The other aspect it has actually strengthened some of the small muscles in my thoracic region and taken away the pain . Who knew ???
Got a new door going in today to staying around the house and tackling all the jobs that I clearly have been ignoring the last year !Grinning
Anyone ever made Bears from relatives clothing . I am thinking of doing it with my dads shirts but never tackled anything like this before .

My own goals over winter is definitely a bit more exercise.

Thats over a year since mum’s third recurrence and it’s time for the scan to be scheduled. All things taken into consideration ,  despite all she endured is no worse off than a year ago . Osteoporosis is definitely the most pressing issue . All the females in my family are now paying close attention to this and try to prevent this where possible .

We shall keep taking it a day at a time with lots of the good stuff included where possible .

What is everyone else up to ?

  • Hi Court, well my plan for November is to try and lose the remaining pounds! Don’t know if I shared before.  When hubby was very poorly and lost a lot of weight. I did all I could to build him up…as w e have always sat down to meals together he wanted me to eat what he was having….he regained weight and I just gained weight !!

Last October I decided I needed time For me..joined a local be well programme which consisted of a dance for health I could also join slimming world for free…the be well programme did a scan thing of the body and gave print out of fat index and other good information….it was scary to see how much body fat I was carrying…anyhow I continued with slimming world and have now lost in total 3 and half stone…I am 7lb to my target weight but it’s now so much harder to lose.  So my goal is to try and lose that by end of November….not good though when last night I had out on one and half pound in one week.  We had a break away before his results on Tue so hence weight gain and poor management on my part.

It’s good Court that you too are doing something for you and it sounds very therapeutic. And healing and restorative.  Tiredness I feel is the bodies way of making us slow down.  I know in the past I would feel a tad guilty ‘just resting’ but now I don’t I feel it’s so valuable….I used to share with others that I was having a L’Oreal moment….if you remember the advert…it followed with the words…”because I’m worth it”.  Have a fabulous day. X

  • Hi Court. Yes the knitting’s definately addictive - have you thought about making twiddle muffs? They look like a great way of using up odds and ends and help provide stimulation for dementia sufferers?
Im up at my parents at the moment and my niece is come down later - she’s training as a midwife so I’ll be able to see if her hospital needs anything.

Im still getting out walking when the rain allows me but contemplating joining a gym maybe………. Joy x

  • Definitely going to do some  . They must accept them at my local Hospital as my dad had one .

I made my mum a wee chemo bag . It’s soft and she can put her comfort products in it during chemo but comfortable enough to sit with it on .

She is a wee trooper. Sailed through her treatment today and loving the staff . They take such good care of her .

Her nurse looked up her bloods and said it was all looking good . Hope that includes her CEA !

What do you add to your twiddle muffs !

Mum had a wee burn from Her hot water bottle . My cousin recommended an electric one . Charge for 15 minutes and last six hours . Off to order one for myself !
    Have a good weekend .

  • So lovely to hear from you again  and that hubby is doing so well - I don’t go on the other board so much now and dont really like the new format either.
Three and a half stone is an amazing weight loss and the dance for health sounds great both for fitness and social benefits. You are definately due  some richly deserved ‘me time’ after the last few years.

I haven’t actually made any twiddle muffs  as I hate all the sewing  up and sewing bits on! I’ve been making little baby hats and top down cardigans and gowns and then I don’t allow myself to knit anything else until I’ve sewn the buttons on! I did a little diddy Santa gift bag and I’m going to knit some little Santa hats to go on the xmas wine bottles that me, my sister and brother seem to exchange every year!
That electric hot water bottle sounds great and so much safer than the traditional ones - in fact Jamie’s just ordered one for his daughter.

Looks like there’s no rain forecast for here today so I’ll be trying to catch up on some washing. Have a good weekend everyone

  • Good morning Karen062 so good to hear from you, and thank you for your kind words..I don’t go on the other site…other than to post quick update to give hope with update as I know I looked for positive posts.  We are taking twelve members of the family out for food and back here later today to celebrate the results this week.

I am not creative at all, but delight in others who are sewing, knitting.

Court I have never heard of electric hot bottles and they sound a great idea, I will certainly take a look for them.

have a good weekend everyone x

  •

I think the electric ones are amazing but I am an ex Occupational therapist so safety hits my radar . In fact I have just told all the little ladies at my mum’s coffee club as it’s a great size to carry out too .

It really does stay warm for hours after a fifteen minute charge .

I am getting one for myself and ordering one for my mother in law .

Mum uses it now to carry to get her bloods done . Every little trick in the book to help get the blood out those veins .

So we are firmly into Christmas movie season . Had one niece the last two weeks for tea , followed by hot chocolate and a movie and her sister has just text to say she is free next week ! Grinning

Good job I got money off my big pack of Chicken.

Scabby scans completed and the waiting game commences.

Best foot forward for now as compartmentalising is now an art form !

Have a good day everyone and fill us in on your activities.
