Hi everyone

I'm Steph from the Community team Slight smile

Here is a new thread for carers, family and friends. This is a space for you to chat, share experiences and support each other through issues related to your loved ones bowel cancer.  The previous thread will shortly be locked as it was getting rather long which can make it difficult to navigate.

Please remember that we also have other dedicated spaces on the Community for carers, family and friends. These spaces exist so you can support each other away from members of the forum who might be dealing with their own cancer diagnosis:

Family and friends forum

Carers only forum

Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum

You would be welcome to set up another new thread like this in one of the above forums. Please just let us know if you would like any help?

We hope you will continue to find lots of support from each other and the Community. We're here to help, so please do let us know if you have any questions or support needs by emailing us at community@macmillan.org.uk

  • I have just received a canvas I ordered of us both in Rome last year and have put it on the wall. I keep looking at it and talking to him, it brings me some comfort just to see him there. Just sorting renewal for car insurance it’s for more than doubled - don’t know why so that’s next job to sort out. One day at a time Vicky that’s all you can do

    sending you a hug

  • Hi Everyone!

Just checking in to see how you all are. Can't believe it's almost a week since Jay's funeral but I still have people messaging me and one of his nephews phoned me last night to say what a lovely service it was and we gave him a great send off. Have been trying to busy myself this week. Cleaned out the car on Monday Jay was never the tidiest in that respect and at times the inside just resembled a rubbish bin on wheels. Don't know how many empty plastic juice and water bottles I pulled out from under the front seats and various sweets and the odd MacDonalds or Burger King food wrappers. the side pockets as well were full of all sorts of unmentionables like paper hankies old receipts for stuff etc and don't get me started on the glove box. But it's clean now and smells a bit fresher with me adding a new Magic Tree air frieshner. I've been de-cluttering as well-or at least trying to. Just emptying out drawers with stuff you know the things that you always say you'll hold on to because it might come in handy one day but never does?? That kind of de-cluttering. Not in any way at all ready to get rid of Jay's stuff that will happen somewhere down the line but just not yet. Had my little granddaughter over on Tuesday for a couple of hours too. She is just getting over chicken pox but is ok and is well past the infectious stage and I have had it already. William is on nights this week and Nicole was at work on Tuesday and it is normally nursery day for Myla but of course with her having the chicken pox they had to keep her at home until she is more or less recovered so with William needing his sleep I said I would take her for a couple of hours. She's a little ray of sunshine for me. Hope you are all doing Ok Helen hope the `sore feet` have healed and you should be proud of yourself with what you raised. Maggie, Pauline, Jkee hope you are all doing well too. Sending you all big hugs. Take Care.

    Vicky xx

  • Vicky I haven’t been in those drawers sorting out stuff you hang onto just in case! I have been shredding some paperwork instead. Have been busy this week with birthdays and just been for a rose bush for Kevin’s mams 90th birthday this weekend. Have all Kevin’s clothes piles up in spare room till I am ready to sort them out whenever that is.

  • Really nice to hear from you Vicky. You are doing so well. Our car is the same as we only have the one now as that young lad crashed and totalled the other one last month. I am not sure if I could declutter as Les has huge amounts pushed in drawers, wardrobes etc. I think my daughter would do it. He gave his sister money for the stamp collection when his dad passed and they take a whole wardrobe up. They would have to go to London as his dad collected stamps from when he was about ten and all in files etc. the loft well I won’t go into that one.

enough of my woes. You are doing so well.  I bet you loved having your granddaughter and spending time with her. That would have been lovely.

I personally think you and Helen are doing marvellous on a day to day basis.

huge hugs to all Maggie xx

  • Seems like you will have lots of stuff to sort out at some time Maggie, I have been in the garage looking for something and there is loads of car stuff and tools in there - think someone else can sort that out after I’ve gone. Renewing car insurance and it’s more than doubled in price since last year - it’s never ending so think a car will have to go at some point although I know Sally would love her dads sports car but they don’t have a garage and it doesn’t go out in the rain, Kevin mollycoddled that car, cleaning an polishing it looking after it like a baby and it would just stand on the road, it’s heavy on petrol and car tax so that’s another expense I don’t really want To have. Never mind I’ve just dried it off after getting it wet and put it away.
