Hello everyone, is a score of 28 high ? I have had a little bit of a problem with finding Bright red blood in my stool just a little bit very sparse .
I did a fit test on a stool that I had straining with and it had a little blood on it would this effect the score ? . Does a fit test pick up visible blood has well has occult blood ?
I am having a colonoscopy next week .

  • Hi Scutch87

Yes the waiting is the worst

To give you a some idea, i was having symptoms (mainly blood) for a while

It ended up being polpys - all low grade and benign

I was driving myself mad with worry in the build upto this, but i’m proof it doesn’t always end up being your worst fears

  • Yeah. I think that's it. You end up spending lots of time trawling the internet and scaring yourself.

I've never noticed blood actually in my stool. I sometimes get a little after wiping but I have hemaroids so.... My main symptom was (still is)  just an on off uncomfortable feeling in my left side. A bit like a cross between a stitch and trapped wind. Apparently that's where you bowel descends. Hence the fit test.

I sent the second once back last Tuesday so fingers crossed I'll get the result in the next couple of days.

Congrats on yours being nothing serious though.

    Scot.

  • Indeed I done all of that and it did me no favours and made anxiety worse

I had a FIT test of 43, blood on stools and much more. I thought that reading was high and the doctor told me it wasn’t

a good sign your reading was low and as you say symptoms have eccelrated it as the doctor would rather be safe and check

Good luck with it all and try not to worry to much (easier said than done)

  • Hi Bud.

I also have similar symptoms to yours. My FIT test score was 26.

Doctor has said he believes it's a low chance although still a chance as my bloods were perfectly fine. No low iron or anemia. I also get the ache/wind like feeling down the left side. As well as an itchy back passage and sometimes blood when wiping.  I go in next Sunday for a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy.

I my self have been really bad and I'm sure I've developed something called health anxiety which is horrible because I'm constantly searching things up and double checking every part of my body Unamused

I hope yours goes well and you get the all clear. I will update when I've had my results

    All the best

    Kris

  • Hi Kris

Yeah that sounds exactly like my symptoms to be fair. The itchy back passage and a small amount of blood occasionally when wiping is what I get but I know I have piles thanks to a 'digital exam' by the doctor. He suggested that's most likely the cause.

I'm still waiting for a blood test and then he's going to decide what's next.

And yeah. The health anxiety is a killer. I feel like it's taken over my life in the last 6 months. And things I would never normally worry about playing on my mind. And then Google only makes things worse.

Is a flexible sigmoidoscopy like a colonoscopy? I've never heard of that. All the best anyway. Let me know how it goes.

    Scot.

  • Health anxiety is the worst. It takes over so much of your life doesn't it?

So from what I understand a flexible sigmoidoscopy just looks at the lower part of your bowel and rectum. Where as the colonoscopy does the whole bowel.

Consultant hasn't said anything about whether he saw anything when he done that tube thing up the back side. So far I've not been told I have piles.

The one I was told to look out for was iron levels and full.blood count. While it doesn't rule out more serious conditions it does seem to be a better sign going forward.

I will keep you updated when I know more mate. Likewise let me know how you get on.

    Cheers

    Kris

  • Hi Mate.

So I had my Flexible sigmoidoscopy today and basically I had a slightly twisted bowel which they used the scope too untwist. And then everything was shown as normal except I have Internal Piles which are the cause of bleeding.

So basically Slightly Twisted bowel and Piles was my Result after a FIT score of 26.

Hope this helps a few others who are worried over similar issues.

    Cheers

    Kris

  • Oh wow so as simple as that everything is sorted? Hopefully mines something that quick to fix. How was the sigmoidoscopy? Was it uncomfortable and did you have to do the what what I've been told is horrible prep to clear all your insides out?

    Scot

  • I've been removed now from the 2ww pathway and I'm not sure what happens next. It will go back to consultant and hopefully I'll be completely discharged. The sigmoidoscopy for me was pretty uncomfortable if I'm honest but I went for no sedation as I prefer too get out as soon as possible. Prep for Sigmoidoscopy was just a liquid enema that you use an hour before up the butt. And 3 days prior a low fibre diet which they'll give you a list of what you can and can't have. My prep I found OK. I think it depends as a colonoscopy may be a different prep.

  • Well I've got my blood test one Wednesday so we'll see what happens after that.

Glad you're on your way to getting sorted though.
