Hello everyone, is a score of 28 high ? I have had a little bit of a problem with finding Bright red blood in my stool just a little bit very sparse .
I did a fit test on a stool that I had straining with and it had a little blood on it would this effect the score ? . Does a fit test pick up visible blood has well has occult blood ?
I am having a colonoscopy next week .

  • Hi Bob, so pleased to hear your news and felt compelled to reply as your situation resonates with me. I too had a FIT test but was below the threshold but due due symptoms, got referred on the 2 week rule. Fast forward to last Saturday, colonoscopy done and removal a very small polyp plus diverticulosis, although got to wait for lab results, however the discharge nurse did say they don’t have any reasons for concern in their experience, so hopefully job done. Anyway the journey, the anxiety exactly the same as yours and 100% on the power of prayer. Likewise I hope this brings some comfort to others. Look after yourself, cheers.

  • Dear Bobsleigh and Chris A.

Thank you for both sharing your positive posts, I believe they will support many people yet to visit.

And congrats on your colonoscopy outcomes Revolving hearts

  • Yes, it’s comforting reading these posts. I was scrolling through Google and I was on the point of despair because of what I was reading when I came across this forum.
My FIT test has come back abnormal 32ug. Having had bowel cancer you can imagine how worried I am. Is 32ug very high? Waiting to hear what’s next. From the posts I gather a colonoscopy. I had one a year ago as I had some bleeding; it was clear. Would welcome some advice and thank you in advance.

  • Hi Maffy.

When I was diagnosed the FIT test highest band was 400+ ug.

For some scenarios, I understood they like to double check reasons for any occult blood registering more than 10ug. This can include CT scans and Colonoscopy.

At the time I looked up the NHS data, then only 1 in 10 positive FIT tests actually lead to cancer being cause. I hope that helps put a little context for you.

  • Thank you for sharing your experience. It is very helpful to hear that from you. The web sites are so confusing and now since I have found this site i no longer Google! I really do appreciate you getting in touch. Thank you again.

  • THANK YOU ALL. I am waiting for a colonoscopy after I had a fair bit of blood when I pooped over 4 days about 3 weeks ago now. No noticeable blood since but I scored 28 on the fit test. Reading all your comments has helped to put my mind at rest a little while I wait for my colonoscopy so honestly, thank you so much because I’m pretty terrified and this helped.

  • Hello

    Hope you are well AR33

Sorry to bother you, i was wondering if you have had your colonoscopy as yet ?

i’m awaiting mine and i’m full of dread and anxiety

    regards

  • Hi Luke1982,

I had my colonoscopy a week ago and was found to have Proctitis, which is nothing very big or scary at all.  No polyps or anything.

I had been absolutely terrified waiting for mine, and the consultant was so reassuring based on my symptoms beforehand. I know it’s way easier said than done but honestly, try not to worry too much - it’s way more likely not to be anything too scary!

  • Great news ! must be a massive relief

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated

  • Hi all, it's nice to stumble on a post like this.

I too have been worried about a positive FIT test. Mine was only 8ug but I'm assuming due to other symptoms it's been escalated. I've done another FIT test, waiting on results from that. I had an ultrasound which picked up a slightly enlarged prostate so I've got a doctor's appointment to talk about that. And I've got a blood test booked but they can't get me in untill the start of August for that. Im sure the anxiety of waiting is making me feel worse than what made me go to the doctor's in the first place!
