So, Jay has phoned this morning to say that he won't be getting home until they are happy with his kidney function. At present it is sitting at 27-29% and it should be up around near the 60 mark. I spoke to the charge nurse on the phone this morning and she said that it is increasing be it slowly. When he was admitted on Thursday it was sitting at 22 so they want it I take it as near to 60 as possible. She said they are going to keep on with the fluids and continually check his bloods. She said it will get there but it can be a slow progress and they are not ready to let him go until they think it is acceptable to do so. This is what happened to me when I went to my yearly review because I have a medical condition. I too have low kidney function but I think mine is sitting at around the 40 mark somewhere which they don't seem concerned about. On the upside, his stoma seems to be working ok again but just need the kidneys to start behaving now. So this has been a setback from what they said earlier this week about the kidneys getting better just hope they can get them to an acceptable level. Not great news to start the year.

Thanks SG yes, it is a big decision to make. We knew the enevitable that fees would rise but didn't think they would rise as much as they have. We've put other ways of paying to them that could be affordable but in the end its if its allowed and it will be `their way or the highway`. Most of these places are only interested in getting their fees/bills from owners. The last owners of the park were like this tried to pocket as much as they could but no respect for owners. We thought there would be a bit of leeway with the new owners and giving more options to pay- which they have but expensive options. We'll just have to think about what we want to do. Yes Jay can still drive once, and if it comes to it and he needs to give up driving that will be when we will need to give up our van.
End of the day Caravan industry is a business and governed by very little laws ( I looked into this years ago)… you can ask for a breakdown of fees but the other side to this is once you highlight yourself , will they start surveying your van for faults etc , End of day they are looking for new blood to either upgrade or buy new.
what I will say is if you propose a fees payment plan , double check there is No interest added!! ( as you are paying outwith their terms)
then think ahead of chilling at ‘your happy place’ ( that was my term for mine lol)
Thanks SG. Yeah! this seems to be the `theme` with this new lot upgrade or buy new. They've come up with these wee schemes of paying your fees for the year- but only if you upgrade or if you do certain surveys on their new caravans which entails actually going into them and looking around and giving your opions and then your entered into the `prize draw` which means getting your fees paid for the year if you `win` or they have introduced letting out your caravan to pay for fees the last owners didn't allow that but don't think we would like to do that anyway the thought of strangers in your caravan all you would need would be `the ned family` with 5 weans then you come back n your van is trashed or things go mysteriously missing- like the TV! seems its happening on our park already, One old guy apparently has been on the site for years and has a boat which he docks at the onsite boat yard and apprently his outboard motor got stolen but you see they are letting renters on to the site now since they have built fancy new hot tub glamping pods and they've renovated the two cottages that were used for managers- hence the hike in our fees. Yes they would add on interest if you come up with your own payment plan. They are doing that if you do the 6 month payment option of £526. I think they just want rid of all the current owners and want to make it an `elite site` where only those who can afford it can buy or stay there.
Gosh PattyK it’s a familiar story the length and breath of Scotland . Still Game I too was surprised that it’s largely unregulated. A couple of fire regulations but no matter how you slice and dice it you are on their land and play by their rules . Our fees are much less than that as it’s for six months only and to be fair they have always been good to us but I have heard a lot from neighbouring sites over the years .
There comes a point where it is financially cheaper to actually buy a house by the time you add in fees and purchase .
However I don’t want to be doing that . I am hoping to get a further one all being well and then that will be me .
Mine is quite a drive away so there is that .

Exactly Court! Well £526 for a start! That's a mortgage payment. We would never get another mortgage though at our ages. We were looking at retirement flats but even then some of them are in the 100,000-price bracket. We are mortgage free so if we were going for something else it would need to be something we could buy outright and you don't get much for your money at the lower end of the price bracket.
Getting off the subject of caravans now and back to Jay. Phoned the GP practice this morning to find out if the referral for his physiotherapy has been put through and it has!! It was done on Friday apparently so now we just have to wait for an appointment to come through for him to go and start hopefully. So that's a positive start on a Monday. Feeling that things are beggining to move (literally) for him now and hopefully further in the right direction.

So, Just when I thought things were coming together for Jay, we hit a setback today. He got up this morning about 11 and was sitting having a cup of tea and then suddenly began shivering and shaking quite uncontrollably. He then stopped but became very lethargic and drowsy. He would open his eyes but just went back to sleep again . So panic stations set in and right away I was on the phone to The Beatson nurses as he couldn't even get himself up off the couch. He was able to tell the nurse himself what was happening and from what he described to her she was able to tell me it sounds like a urine infection possibly caused by his catheter. The paramedics arrived 3 of them took his BP which was quite low and his temperature had gone up to 39 I took it earlier and it was 36 but took again when speaking to the nurse on the phone and it had gone up to 39. So they got him in the ambulance and gave him fluids on the way down and oxygen. Seems to have worked because his BP went up slightly and his heart rate stabilised it was really fast they said when yhey came in at first. So he's not at the Beatson this time he's dt the Queen Elizabeth hospital which is over where we live still a wee distance but not as far as the Bestson. Awee change of scenery for him.
So, Not long in from the hospital. Jay has been admitted to High Dependency because his blood pressure is still playing 'silly beggars' going up and down like a yo yo. He's not getting an output from his catheter either although he's been given fluids. Wee nurse put a new catheter in- a long term one which was supposed to be what he had in already but the wee nurse told us it wasn't so it is possible that this is what has caused the infection maybe its been in longer than it should have been. District nurses were supposed to be coming out weekly to check on it but because they ere told it was z long term catheter they said their next visit was the 30th March!!! His blood pressure before he went up to HD was 89 at its highest 91 but then dropped back to 71. One of the head doctors in resuss where he was in at first though, said his blood pressure was a whole lot better than before when he had been brought in it was sitting under 60 and at one point practically non existent! So 6 hours in total I was there for. Got my sister back staying again Jay insisted she be here. Will keep you all updated.
Vicky
Oh poor Jay ! He has really had a tough time and was doing so well in between .
However , my mum was in high dependency there for two weeks and the staff are absolutely brilliant.
They will get him sorted .
Hope you get some sleep . It’s such a long day getting them safely to the right unit .

Thanks Court and everyone. He phoned me this morning at 4.a.m to tell me he is going for an op to get a nephostromy in place this is the one he was hoping to avoid. They sent him for a scan he said take it was an ultrasound and his kidneys are showing a blockage. He was getting no urine output from his catheter last night or very little. So I need to phone back around 3 for an update or he'll probably phone me if he's able. He phoned me earlier and said the surgeon was round and told him the op is quite quick and done under local anaesthetic in x Ray so he'll be conscious when it's getting done and just slightly sedated. It's just one thing after another just now
