I have my first radiation treatment today 01/07/2021. I haven't felt comfortable from the first time I went into the radiology department. The Head Radiologist is 76 years old, and he has high credentials, but when I met him I was really take aback because I felt like he was a high pressured salesman. Also, while we were talking, he abruptly gets up and leaves and began talking with other patients in the hallway. I waited about 10 minutes and walked out and asked a guy at the desk where he was and he said he didn't know, but after about 20 minutes I decided to leave! I was in my car and the Doctor calls me and pleaded with me (I almost felt coerced) to come back inside. Also, the whole office is unprofessional----front desk girl has 5 inch (yes---5 inch) blue, glittery fingernails, and has rings in her nose. The girl that did my intake looked like a gang member. She was tattooed head to toe and was very curt.
I am worried about radiation anyway, but for sure I don't want my bladder or another part of my body blasted, and not the tumor!
Am I nutty to worry like this?
Thank you for reading this and any responses!
Hi
Going into a hospital environment can make you feel very vulnerable and many unknowns to overcome . There is a duty of care to assist the patients through that process . I doubt very much that they would be obligated to change their appearance etc . However leaving a patient in that manner is rude . It sounds as though it could have been handled better .
I think you don’t want your main concerns to get lost , I would stick to the facts that you were vulnerable and felt they did not assist you through that process . Heightened your anxiety by leaving you mid consultation and the staff seemed disinterested.
It is important you get your treatment so if it was me I would give them another chance but you can raise your concerns in a way that brings about change . Maybe email the consultant and let him know you felt abandoned and confused by the approach.
We also have a helpline 0808 808 0000 . They would be happy to talk this through with you . It’s such a difficult time but they are there to support you through this .
take care ,
