Hello,
I was diagnosed with rectal cancer last September, and started radiotherapy, with combined Capecitabine in October, and am now on a Oxalyplatin and Capecitabine combination, and on cycle 5 of 6, so am nearly at the surgery stage.
Last Wednesday, I came over really flu-like, with big temperature spikes. I called the hotline, and they sent me to A&E. I was discharged in the wee hours of Thursday, but, after laying shivering all night, took my temperature and went straight back to A&E. After 24hrs, and lots of blood/culture tests, they couldn't find any indication of infection. It was supposed to be my clinic day, so I called my oncology department to cancel and update them, and actually got to speak to my oncologist, who got me sent home with antibiotics. Since then, I am having big temperature spikes with shivering fever, and dropping back into more lucid moments, like now. I have been doing a bit of looking around, (reputable), websites, and have seen that one of the rarer side-effects is fever. Having been taking the drug for such a long time, though, I would not have thought it likely that a side-effect like this would take so long to manifest. Has anyone else had any experience with this happening on Capecitabine?
Hello Christof
I am Brian one of the Community Champions here on the online Community. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying your post will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and answered by other members of the bowel cancer group.
One thought I did have after reading your post was to suggest you pose your question to one of our Cancer Specialist nurses - here's the link you need:
I hope you get some answers and I wish you well moving forward.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Christof,
sorry to hear about your temperature spikes and shivering fever - it does sound very unpleasant. Have you managed to speak to your oncologist about the possibility of it being a side effect?
Im afraid I have no experience of this because I was taken off capecitibine after two days as it caused me heart issues. I hope that you are feeling better soon and can get some answers on what is causing it.
