Hello,
Ive recently had my diagnosis of T3N1M0 tumour in my right colon, meaning that I’m due to have my right side of colon removed.
At my diagnosis, (just before the 2nd wave) they were confident that I’d be in before Christmas. I’ve already had my pre op delayed as we’re in tier 3 and my hospital had declared a critical incident not long ago. I have now had my pre op but they can’t give me a date yet.
It’s unlikely that I’ll have my op in the 62 day window that hospitals strive for. There must be others that had similar experiences in the first wave- can you tell me how long your delays were and if it had any impact on your outcome?
I know that, for all the reassurances that the colorectal team give me, ie that my tumour is slow growing etc, actual examples of people with similar delays would let me know I’m not alone!
All I can do is keep fit and healthy (5 mins on the treadmill each morning works wonders!) but some more reassurances on this, or the op would be appreciated!
I'm in Lincolnshire. My two nearest hospitals declared critical incidents just after my diagnosis and stopped all elective surgery. I'm not sure they've started again yet. A friend of mine who lived nearby still had his hernia operation a couple of weeks ago at a "green" site which is also near me and he feels terrible that his operation went ahead and mine didn't. It's crazy. I think it's to do with staffing levels in ICU in particular which would put me at risk after a major op. Perhaps now with the vaccine being rolled out tomorrow that will improve.
Hi ,
I think there is a time to apply a little pressure . A lot of elective work has been pushed back here too but they have managed to continue with cancer surgery.
You have been so patient and positive but you could even ask your GP to enquire for you .
All the best when it comes along , hopefully in the near future.
Lovely to see the vaccine starting to be given out ! A bit of hope has arrived .

Great news
Wishing you every success and a really speedy recovery .
The pre op talks are quite something and I was not even the patient !!! Felt like grabbing my mother on a few occasions and heading right out the door however none have actually turned out to be as bad as imagined . I think they cover every possible angle .
All the very best ,

Hi, that is really good news, take care, the time will fly!
That's much better news. I felt much better when the date was definite, it seemed something was being done rather than existing in a void. The op was actually far easier than I ever expected, get some decent drinks sorted before you go in, hospital ones are awful. You'll be home and sorted for Xmas.

Morning . That’s great news. Yes the pre-op talk is scary but, like Court says, they cover every possible scenario. My surgeon told me that the mortality included any deaths regardless of the reason within a certain time frame of the op so even if they were hit by a bus it woukd be included in this stat! You know you need this op so let’s get it out of the way, home for Xmas and put it all behind you 2021.
Take care
Karen x
ps my op was brought forward 2 weeks when I had it as my surgeon needed to assist in a 2 surgeon op on my original date. It was a shock but gave me less time to stress and I was 2 weeks cancer free earlier than expected
