I feel so alone and scared, im Danny I'm 39 years old age and was diagnosed on Monday with Bowel, colon and liver cancer. I have a scan on Tuesday to see if its spread anywhere else and then a biopsy to figure out the strain stage etc. I have 3 young children and although every one is saying stay positive etc im finding it so hard at the thought I'm not gunna make it and my boys are going to lose there Daddy.
Hi ,
Welcome to the forum and I am very pleased you have reached out to us .
I am so sorry you have to face treatment . It is incredibly frightening to begin with and hopefully we can settle some of that fear .
https://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/about-bowel-cancer/our-publications/treating-advanced-bowel-cancer/
I have included Boewlcancer Uk s latest document on stage 4 disease management and it’s a good read . Once you know your treatment plan Macmillan has many good publications on chemo and side effects .
Once this scan is over and the tumour testing ( great ) then they can pull together a treatment plan for you.
There is a group of patients who respond well to chemotherapy despite it spreading to other areas . Some people go on to use maintenance chemo and are still on it years later , for others chemotherapy actually opens up other treatment options like surgery and Radio Frequency Ablation . There are actually quite a lot of treatment options for the liver.
There is also a lot of different chemo and targeted therapies depending on your cell type .
Everyone is individual in terms of spread and how they respond to treatment. That actually brings a lot of hope . The other good news . Being positive has many health benefits in dealing with treatment but the chemo and surgery deal with the cancer and sometimes in the early stages it’s just another layer of stress landing on you . You are human and take the time you need in the way you need to find more solid ground and then some light will come into the picture.
My mum is very positive but she had her days when she had to dig very deep to find a way through too.
If you click on my user name you can read her story . Like you hers had already set up camp in her liver , it was classed as a significant spread . They have been managing her well over the last 11 years and she is still taking good care of her health . Not sure how active you are but getting out with your kids for a good walk etc actually helped my mum loads .
If you need help with the emotional side have a good chat with your GP . They are an important part of your treatment team and been a lifeline to us on many occasions.
There is actually quite a lot of other families going through this just now on the forum and I am hoping they pop on and share .
In the early days of diagnosis I would be careful what sources you Google . Stick with the reliable ones and check any research date . Having lived through this for over ten years with my mum I can assure you many changes have taken place. A lot of progress has taken place .
Jump on any thread you like and ask anything . We will do our best to answer .
take special care ,

Hi Danny 81,
So sorry to hear your news, it's such a shock isn't it, and difficult to stay positive, such a lot to take in.
My husband is recently diagnosed with colon cancer with a spread to his liver, and the outlook felt very bleak. Through this forum, we were advised that once we'd seen the Oncologist and had the plan, the anxiety would lift, and that has proved to be so true.
Once the plan started although daunting, each step has made it all a little easier to process, and after having his first chemo, he says he feels he's now fighting. The waiting was the worst for us, but we're on our way now, navigating our way through tests, and jargon we never thought would be in our life.
All of the people involved in my husbands care have been brilliant, he definitely feels very supported.
I hope you get your plan soon, there is so much hope these days, lots of treatment choices, and so many success stories.
I have found so much support on this forum, I hope you do too.
Love Frances x
