Hi Folks
just thought I would say hello as have been reading peoples stories on and off over the last 18 months finding the stories both helpful and informative, have just decided to actually join
bit of background
got diagnosed with bladder cancer June 24
Had several Turbt opps with a course of BCG treatment which unfortunately wasn’t successful
it was suggested I had bladder and prostate removal with conduit surgery
which did frighten the life out of me , to be fair
had opp Monday the 14 April came home with my new friend on the 19th who is currently behaving himself all in all very straightforward
as not a person who can sit still for 5 mins finding the current forced rest a bit of a strain so one of the reasons I find myself writing this .
im male 64 , happy to share any information of what went on over the last 18 months
hope everyone is having a great Easter
Hi kpg830 and a warm welcome to the group. I hope you have had a nice Easter weekend. Sounds as though you have had an interesting 18 months, but good to know you have come through it. I went a different direction to you but I am sure your experience will help others early in the process and there will be others here able to help you going forward. Best wishes.
Hi kpg and welcome to the group. I had the same operation at the end of February. It does take a bit of getting used to having a stoma but the alternative is not worth thinking about. Your strength will gradually come back over the next weeks. Try not to do too much its easy to over do it all. Iam 8 weeks post op and things are getting better all the time.
Great to have you on the forum . Do t hesitate to ask any questions.
Best wishes
Mark
Hi Jane
thanks for asking
to be fair remarkably good , mega constipation, managed to cut right back on pain killers , was a bit rough the 4 days after the opp , eating and drinking semi normal , just trying to take it easy a not overdo things , my best half has one eye on me all the time
Glad you are not feeling too bad.The bowels can be troublesome for a while afterwards.I was given a low fibre diet sheet which didn’t help the constipation.Eating little but often is best.I can relate to the strain of having to rest.I was always on the go too but you will pay for it if you overdo it.I took up gentle hobbies to pass the time which helped.Keep an eye on your stoma size too as they can shrink right down and you will get leaks if the bag hole is not the correct size.Jane
Hi Mark
just a quick question
having the normal route for the plumbing works re directed , this has been dry ish since the opp , but today as in 7 days from opp , I have had the sensation of wanting to pee which didn’t think was possible but throughout the day I have only to cough and I get some flow , does this sound normal
cheers
keith
Hi Keith
When I was in the hospital there was a man across from me who also had a RC. One day we were talking and suddenly he said to me 'I've just had a sensation that I need to go to the toilet out through the front ' I laughed and I said that's impossible. But I had the same feeling a few days later and have had them occasionally since. Nothing came out of me but I guess it's just some fluid from the op you are experiencing. I still get the sensation sometimes, but iam not worried about it. But it is strange lol
Best wishes
Mark
