Mind over matter ?

Does anyone believe in mind over matter ?
Hubby (60 ) is on the 2WW for tests for bladder cancer . Apart from a urine infection which started all this off ( last urine test showed high white blood cell count but no growth ) he's been fine.
But he's been doing a lot of googling ( I know we shouldn't) but now for the last few days he's suddenly been going to the toilet 15 times during the day ( couple at night ) and now he says he's been dribbling at the end of a full wee ( which he says is something new )
Could it be anxiety waiting for tests that's causing the frequent urination ? And mind over matter with the dribbling ?
I know it's quite easy to read symptons online then suddenly you've got them all ?

  • Hi worried03

I was much the same as your husband. I received a ct scan and then a flexible cystectomy which will determine if there is any cancer. I know its difficult waiting for these things to happen. Most members of this forum don't recommend Dr Google. There is plenty of advice and support available here from people who have been through it all.

Best wishes to you and your husband

  • Thank you for your reply . Much appreciated.

Just read your story I'm glad to hear it had a good ending.

    It's the waiting that's horrendous

  • Thank you. Yes the waiting is the worst. If there is anything there,  your husband will be put on a pathway that best suits his condition. This helps you mentally as you will then know the various stages

Don't hesitate to ask any questions the forum member will only be too glad to help.

    Best wishes

  • Yes, I believe you can think yourself into a panic. Or maybe the infection has recurred. Fortunately the 2 week pathway is quick and your husband will soon be investigated. The one big thing I have learnt through my diagnosis and (successful) treatment for bladder cancer is that worry does not cure bladder cancer, or anything else.

For information on bladder cancer, the best sites for are this one - some very good, downloadable booklets, Fight Bladder Cancer, NHS and Cancer Research. But I suggest he stop looking until he has been seen and has been told what he has, if anything. Meanwhile, I should check to see if there is still any infection via your GP.

Good luck, and there are plenty of people on here who can tell you that even if he does have bladder cancer, it is not the end of the world.

    All the best,

  • Hi Worried03, hopefully the wait won't be too long before your hubby has a cystoscopy to have a look inside his bladder and probably a CT scan too. In the meantime it may be a good idea to get him to increase his fluid intake to keep the bladder flushed out. Robinsons Lemon Barley water seems to have a soothing effect on the bladder and is used a lot by the lovely folk on the forum.

Sending you both big hugs, love Ade xx

  • Hi Worried03,Some of these symptoms may be due to the bladder thickening and outflow obstruction you mentioned in your other post.If there is any type of blockage your husband will be more prone to urinary infections. It would be helpful to get a urine sample tested for infection.Best wishes Jane x

  • Hi Worried03

It's easy to let anxiety dictate your (Hubby's) expectations and googling can contribute to that.  I'm relatively new here and my experience so far is that the waiting is the worst, but the friendly folks here can help ease the burden and there's also lots of valuable advice on this website.
