Hello again! I am about four weeks post-op and I must say it has not been too easy- mostly frustration due to restricted mobility. My usually flat abdomen is now quite swollen which restricts movement. The doctor says this is due to his internal excavation work and it may take a long time (6-12 months) to subside. Anyone else had this difficulty and how long did it go on for? The doctor has recommended a hernia belt with an access flap for the stoma and bag. Thanks.
Hi,I have the same problem.Straight after surgery my abdomen was enormous and the surgeon was concerned there might be a small bleed. They monitored me closely and the swelling did go down a bit. It’s nearly 18 mths since my op and my stomach is no longer flat. Some days it is flatter than others but this seems to be related to my bowels.Do you get any nausea ? I’m speaking to the urologist soon so I’m going to ask him about the abdominal symptoms.Sorry not to have been any help but I don’t expect we are the only people who have experienced this.Best wishes Jane
I forgot to say it is still early in your recovery so hopefully your abdomen should go down as the healing begins.Mine doesn’t look anywhere near as swollen as it did immediately post op.I struggled with mobility to start with mainly because of the pain in the abdominal area but it improved greatly over time.Teasswill passed on the tip of taking smaller steps and that really helped.Best wishes Jane xx
Thanks! I will add that when I lie down the abdomen returns to a reasonably - although not completely - flat profile, but when I stand or sit then I am the world's first pregnant man! Mobility is slowly improving and yesterday I managed a 2km circuit in just under 30 minutes (walking) so that cheered me up. I try to walk 2-4km every day usually in three separate sessions
It sounds as if you are progressing well.It is easy to overdo it though so do take care.I made that mistake early on.Best wishes Jane
