Hi
I'm Matt, a 58 year old from Oxfordshire. Found out at the start of February that I had a 3cm Grade 2 pTa tumour, following passing blood. Had a TURBT operation 18 days after first symptoms, so no complaints about the speed of the NHS! Just had the first of 6 doses of Mitomycin yesterday.
There seems to be a family history of bladder cancer; my dad had it, my mum has had it for 15 years (she's on the checkup routine), my uncle had it, and my aunt died of it.
Feeling pretty sanguine about it all. My assumption is that, like my mum, I'll go onto the checkup schedule, and they will hopefully catch any recurrence.
Hi, Matt,
like you I have a relative who had bladder cancer. Both my mother, 50+ years ago, and I, have the muscle-invasive type. She died of it but I am now 3 years post bladder-removal and being regularly reviewed. So far so good.
I think your assumptions on your treatment are likely to be correct. Fortunately, these days there are good treatments for bladder cancer and new ones being developed too and the regular reviews are very helpful.
All the best,
