Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with grade 3 bladder cancer and given 2 option RC or radiotherapy but the tumouris pressing on my tube up to my kidneys so having chemo first to shink tumor, they have said if tumour in my tube then radiotherapy out of question.

Its scary and I am worried about the surgery and stoma bag any advice?  From someone thats been through this.

I am 63 years old with young grandkids, so would like to see them grow up a little bit.

  • Hello and welcome to the community and our friendly group, although sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was also 63 when I was diagnosed. I am now 70, so hopefully that will give you some reassurance. We will all understand the thoughts you are having at the moment, but bladder cancer can be treated successfully. I went the radiotherapy route and will be able to help with any questions if you go that way. We have many members here living successfully with a stoma and should be along to help with any questions or concerns regarding that. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Thankyou for the welcome, its comforting to know you was same age and still hear 7 years later.

  • Hi Amelia55,Welcome to the group. There are several people here who have had a radical cystectomy.I had mine in 2019 and have a stoma.I haven’t had any problems living with the stoma. The stoma nurses will be there to offer help and support.I’m back gardening and today I painted a wall.Having a stoma shouldn’t affect your everyday activities. It becomes part of your life and it’s not that difficult to look after once you are shown what to do.I hope you find this group helpful.Feel free to ask any questions,we are happy to help if we can.Love Jane

    Thanks

  • Hi Amelia

I had RC and opted for the stoma. His name is Basil after Basil of Fawlty Towers

I want to reassure you that life is good. There are other options to choose from but for me, it was the stoma route. Keep in touch

Thank you so much its a big help to talk with u all, just waiting at moment to hear when zi start chemo before surgery.

  • It's quite natural to be apprehensive. I had RC over 9 years ago (but had neobladder instead of stoma) age 57. It does knock you for 6 & takes months to fully recover, but looking back it seems a short episode. If anything I am more fit now than before surgery!
