Good afternoon,

Question on this to those who have had this treatment:

How did your side effects progress / worsen over the course of your chemotherapy?  My husband has had 1 of 2 of his first round, and it hasn’t been too bad. Just fatigue, but bearable. Are the side effects likely to worsen and get more severe over the course?

Just so we can manage our expectations

Thank you very much

  • Hi . Sorry for the delayed reply. Had a busy day. I had Gem/Cis planned over a six week period. Long day/Short day. I had 2 delays because bloods had not recovered enough, so this stretched it to 8 weeks. I was fortunate not to have any nasty side effects. The worse I suffered was a blister on my lip. Even on the delayed weeks, I felt ok. The anticipation what may happen was always worse than what did happen. I continued playing golf throughout chemo treatment. Saying that I know from being here for a long time, not everyone is so fortunate and people have varying reactions.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thank you, Rily.  I’ll let him know that it can be like that, but obviously not to count on it all the way through. The consultant says my husband’s kidney function is very good so that helps. He’s drinking plenty of water and taking the anti nausea pills. He’s made of pretty sturdy stuff. I had to have a nap today (exhausted emotionally, I think), whereas he was out mending the roof of our shed which had got damaged in the wind!
    Thanks again,

  • Ps. My husband is also a golfer and is looking forward to the golf courses opening again soon!
