After my Cystoscopy.

Good morning.

I had been finding blood in my urine and had a rigid Cystoscopy on Christmas Eve to check out my bowel and ureter. Due to blood in my urine I was kept in overnight for observation and discharged on Christmas Day after doctors rounds, although the nurse dealing with me thought it was wrong as my urine was still a pinkish colour. A Ureteric stent was place in my ureter but not removed. Apparently some lesions were found and dealt with and biopsies were taken.

I was told that passing urine could be uncomfortable for a few days - that was an under statement as it was cringingly painful, and I would have an urge to urinate frequently, which I did- about every 15 minutes. I was also put on a 7 day course of anti biotics.

Now in day 5 since procedure carried out. The urge to urinate has diminished somewhat and is now about every 2 hours, but still quite uncomfortable, and only a slight sign of pink urine. That was untill this morning when I passed a lot more pink urine.

Does all this resonate with others out there who have had the same procedure. According to information I was given, all this sort of thing should have stopped by now so it is worrying me quite a bit. Am I being too hasty or is this quite normal really.

Thanks for any advice and support.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the group although sorry to hear you are still in some discomfort after your TURBT. This all sounds familiar and par for the course. The feeling of peeing broken glass should gradually subside. You will have an internal wound which takes time to heal and any can be aggravated causing it to bleed. After about two weeks you may notice more blood and some clots as the scab breaks away from the wound as part of the healing process. It is important that you drink plenty of water to clear things out and help prevent blockages. 2/3 litres a day is recommended even though you have frequent urination. As always though, if things don't improve or get worse then contact the medics. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi ekimjo,Welcome to the group.Sorry you are still in pain.Unfortunately the bleeding can start up again following this procedure. As rily says you need to drink plenty as this will help to flush the bladder out.Avoid any heavy lifting for the next few weeks while the bladder heals.I hope your bladder feels more comfortable soon.A hot water over the bladder can help with the pain.Best wishes Jane
