Hi my brother was diagnosed with bladder cancer in July thus year and had operation to remove his bladder and prostrate , he seemed to be recovering well with bag , he has since lost weight and is struggling to eat , been back in hospital and they have said he may have blockage in his bowel due to scar tissue , still unable to eat much and is now waiting for the other bag to be fitted , his wife is really struggling
So sorry to hear of this set back for your brother. Unfortunately complications such as this do sometimes crop up. Sounds as thought the hosp is on top of things and sorting it out. It is often the loved ones who struggle almost more than the patient - it's the feeling of helplessness. Appetite can be poor anyway after this surgery and can take many months to build up weight again. The medics may suggest special nutritional drinks to help. Otherwise, little and often is the key, even a spoonful or two/half a biscuit every hour, concentrating on protein and carbs, but really anything he fancies. Hope things start to pick up for you all soon.
I’m so sorry to hear your brother has complications.I hope that he feels better soon.As Teasswill has said appetite is often poor post op.I found I couldn’t face drinking that well either but using a straw helped at the beginning.I only snacked at the start but that helped to build the appetite back up.Best wishes Jane
