Nephrostomy Advice

Hi,

I am writing on behalf of my mum Tina who is 79 years old and has been told she needs a bilateral nephrostomy.

I know it’s a big ask but she would like to speak to someone who has had it done. She is very worried about the difficulty of day to day living after the procedure. It seems like a very complicated.

We have watched some videos on YouTube but speaking to someone directly would help.

She has breast cancer which has spread to the area around the womb which has created a blockage. She has stents which didn’t work.

She doesn’t have bladder cancer but the community admin recommended I post here.

If anyone is able to have a chat with us, please reply here or by Private Message.

Best wishes,

Suzanne

  • Sorry to hear your mum’s health problems. We all understand the fear and anxiety you and your mum are experiencing, though everyone has different degrees of stages and grades of their cancers. I haven’t had a nephrostomy so can’t advise but hopefully one of our lovely group will come along soon to share their experience. My go to for guidance has always been my Cancer Nurse Specialist….does your mum have one she could talk to? They really are the experts on what treatments mean.Sending you and your mum love and best wishes. Hxxx

  • Thanks H,

She has a breast cancer nurse specialist, but we will try to speak to a Macmillan specialist in that area via the Macmillan call centre. She is still keen to talk to someone who has experienced living with a nephrostomy,

    Best wishes,

    Suzanne
