Hi,For anyone interested tonight’s episode on BBC 2 at 9 pm will feature bladder removal.Jane x

  • I found a video on youtube ages ago, about doing a neobladder.  Really brought home how much dissection etc they have to do. Test book diagrams make human insides look all neatly laid out - not the reality of all joined together!

  • Hi Rob,It was interesting.I think the one I watched previously was more detailed though.Surgery is so advanced now.Jane x

  • Hi Teasswill,The neo bladder is a wonder.I am in awe of what can be done to help patients surgically.Jane x

  • Can’t see it on iplayer, have you a link please cheers

  • I went on catch up TV, BBC2 yesterday. Here is a link HERE . there are two ops in the programme. Hope it works for you. Best wishes.

PS. Graphic scenes from the start.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Jane

I thought it was great to watch, I was wondering how they make a new bladder from the bowel and now I know

My good friend has just been diagnosed with Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) cancer of the right cheek and is due to have the same operation as the lady having the first operation

The fact that both operations were relevant to me was very interesting

    Much love, Tina x

  • Hi Tina,It was good.I wish
I had watched more of this series.I hope your friend’s operation goes well.Love Jane x

  • Thank you for alerting us to this. I watched it last night with my husband. We usually watch this series but funnily were having dinner on Wednesday with  a friend who had an operation on her cheek 30 years ago to  remove a tumour. No sign of it on her face now. So both cases felt very relevant.

I'm glad my op was robotic as I'm sure recovery from such a big wound would have been much slower. Although that might be less interesting for TV. Also it confirmed to my husband that stoma and bag was the right choice for me (I hadn't gone into much detail with him about neobladder at the time) otherwise I suppose the basic operation is much the same in both cases. Mainly the different size and type of the bowel section taken. Very interesting.

Made us realise how lucky we are to live in a time when we can have such complex operations and a good quality of life afterwards

  • Haven't watched the new prog yet, but sounds worthwhile. When I went for ultrasound post op, the radiographer said they could tell which surgeon had done the op by their connection of the ureters - each had a different preferred location! Mine studied under Studer who pioneered the female neobladder.

  • Hi Latestart,I’m glad you found it of interest.Jane x
