Hi all

As I posted earlier in the week my chemotherapy was stopped due to clots and my Consultant was meeting with the surgeon on Thursday. I thought it was next Thursday but it turns out it was yesterday.

The surgeon has just rang me to tell me that there is a space next Wednesday for my RC. I have a scan on Monday and a pre op on Tuesday . I've to stop my blood thinners on Monday.

It's all a bit sudden I wasn't expecting it to be so soon but iam looking forward to getting it over with.

All go here now getting ready for hospital

Best wishes to all

Mark

  • Hi Mark. Bit of a whirlwind few days coming up for you. Good to know you have a date and not too long to worry about it. I hope all goes smoothly. Best wishes.

  • Hi Mark,I’m glad you have a date now.Pack clothes that will be loose around the abdomen and shoes/slippers that you can slide on if possible. It will be very tiring post op but try and shuffle/walk as soon as you can even if it’s just around the bed.I hope it all goes smoothly and you will keep us updated on your progress.Love Jane xx

  • Hi Mark, always good to get on with treatment, the waiting around just wears you down. There are many on this site who have experienced RC and while it is a major op, feedback has been pretty clear, it is a life saver. Sending you very best wishes for your surgery. Let us know how things go. Hx

  • Thanks Jane

Yes have to start packing. I was given a progression sheets that I have to complete each day when iam in there how far I've walker etc before they will let me out.

I've a fair idea what's in front of me from reading the forum it's been so helpful

  • That’s interesting.I could have done with something like that though I was up walking virtually everyday. The fatigue is what you can’t really prepare for but pain hopefully won’t be too bad.A few of us managed on paracetamol alone after the first day or two.You have a lot of tubes in intensive care but most are taken out by the time you get onto a ward.xx

  • Hi Mark,

That's good - getting it over and done with means you can get on with life all the sooner. And it's good the clots haven't delayed it.

You've seen all of us who have been through it have coped well and soon got back to normal. These new techniques mean the effects of the operation are quickly overcome.

Getting moving again is important and of course you'll be learning new things. I tell my husband that since  the op I've become an expert in adhesives (stoma bag) as well as hydraulics (drainage into the night bag).

    Welcome to the club.

  • Thanks latestart

Yes iam quite hyper at the minute trying to get things organised

I know there will be a great change in how I do things and it will take a bit of getting used to but I'll get there eventually. The forum has offered me great support and advice

    It's all happened so quickly

    Best wishes

  • It’s a different way of managing but it soon becomes routine.
